I have to say this is by far one of the best books that I've read this year. Its so beyond amazing! The story will really touch your heart and soul! Sometimes you just need a change, something totally different and unexpected! This totally describes Patrick and Ivy... Patrick is a city boy. Everything was fine for him... he's set in his ways and not really one to change. But somewhere along his way, he decides he needs a fresh new start. Leaving Texas to travel to new York to conquer the medical world. Little does he know that this path will lead him to love and a life he never knew existed... Ivy left the city behind to start a new life. Days that were filled with sad memories are now filled with ideas and plans to help and inspire others. She brings a peaceful mood with her, a breath of fresh air. People are instantly drawn to her, including a certain city boy. Patrick and Ivy meet by chance. She senses he needs a change, something to shake him up a little. She wants to be the one to help with that. They each have something different in mind, but sometimes a path is chosen for you and you have to roll with it. One simple night or one unexpected moment can change how you face the future forever. I loved this book with my whole heart and I have to say I thought this would be an easy review to write... boy was I wrong. I can't find the right words to describe this book. but if I had to try...I would say its fantastic, swoon worthy, heartbreaking and beautiful love story. Have a box of Kleenex handy. You will need them!
City Beautiful was one of the top reads of my friend Maggie and when given the chance to read it I took it instantly. This is my second CM Foss book, after previously having read Jock, and I fell in love with the story and these wonderful characters she created. Told in dual POV, City Beautiful follows Ivy and Patrick, two very different, but somewhat similar characters. After enduring as much loss as she could in the big city, Ivy moved away from all the commotion. She’s now settled in a little rural area, where she owns a bed and breakfast, and a little farm that she’s incredibly proud of. Despite having everything she needs, she’s lonely and emotionally detached from every possible suitor. In comes Patrick who’s on a cross country trip, from Texas to New York, where he’s set to start his new job. After a day and night of heartwarming sharing, a night they said will only stay that, they find themselves in a bit if a predicament when the unexpected happens. One thing I loved about this story, as with every CM Foss, is that the love story and the characters’ development, or self discovery in this case, take center stage and that for me is always a plus. I adored seeing Ivy show Patrick how to let go, how to let go of a stiff suit in exchange for a pair of jeans and a T-shirt. But more than anything I was mesmerized by the change in Ivy – her emotional transformation was shown to us through pages and pages on incredible tender moments between her and every other character in this book. The writing is what made this book a top read for me – it flows naturally and beautifully, it’s easy to follow and get lost in this country world the author has created. CM Foss painted vivid images of this little farm, of a city girl who’s alluring not only for the hero, but for the reader as well – I would leave the city in a heartbeat if I could go and spend just a few days in the company of Ivy and Mr Moto and learn to take advantage of all the things self sufficient life has to offer. ***ARC given by the author in exchange for an honest review***
I have been a fan of CM Foss since her first book Shiver, which was a great read. I enjoyed seeing her progression as an author in Swoon, which was a fantastic read. But she has truly blown it out of the water with City Beautiful! Every now and again when reading, I have this feeling where I know I’m in the midst of something really special and it makes me hang on to every word, every character, every feeling. I can only describe this feeling as “book magic.” City Beautiful has book magic in abundance. There is not one thing I didn’t love about this story and there is not one thing I would change about it either. CM is so adept at mixing humor with heartbreak that I often found myself laughing out loud at the beginning of a chapter and reduced to tears by the end of it. Her stories always feel like they have come full circle by the end, but I particularly loved the feeling of completion that I got when I finished the epilogue of City Beautiful. I left the book immediately wanting to dive back in and re-read it again and I can’t think of a better endorsement for a book than that.
