Angus is far too hard on his wife. He treats her with suspicion and contempt. when she saya shes pregnant . He sends a woman in to check and confirm it! I ended up feeling no compassion for his cold unfeeling charactor. The witch Roanaid who will be featured in the next book, his ex. lover is horrible and the next book is based on her! won't be reading that. she was totally unlikeable.

Claimed by the Highlander starts two years after the events in Captured by the Highlander. Angus 'The Lion' MacDonald has been living on the outskirts of civilization in exile when he learns about the death of his father and returns to reclaim his homeland. After winning the castle Angus claims the former laird's daughter, Lady Gwendolen, as his bride in effort to unite the two clans living under one roof, but instead of finding a meek woman he can easily ignore he finds a stunning beauty refusing his claim. To keep her clan safe though Gwendolen must accept her duty and marry the fierce warrior, but she will not bow down easily and sets her own terms. Just when their marriage seems to be more then one of mere conveyance a traitorous plan is revealed, one that could destroy their marriage, precious life's, and the peace both of them long for. If you read the first novel, Captured by the Highlander (which you do not need to in order to read Claimed by the Highlander), then you know that Angus wasn't the most likeable character and I fully expected to carry on those negative feelings towards him into this novel, but I was pleasantly surprised at what I found and got swept away by his story. Angus is riddled with guilt over his past but because of it he has wonderful morals, especially when it comes women. You see a depth to his character that was lacking in the previous novel and is incredibly endearing. To say that I ended up loving this fierce Highland warrior would be an understatement. He is a conflicted hero scared to love and be weakened by it, but with a surprisingly gentle touch and a golden heart. Gwendolen on the other hand is dealing with her own internal struggles, trying to balance her loyalties that are all at odds. She is a charming heroine, who is brave, fighting for her beliefs. She at first is leery of the terrifying Lion but easily succumbs to her physical attraction to him. When she starts to develop deeper feelings for Angus, she tries to prove her love and trustworthiness to him and that journey was both heart warming and heartbreaking. The characters and situations in Claimed by the Highlander were believable, entertaining and enamoring with incredible twists at the end of the plot that kept me on the very edge of my seat and my gut in knots, not to mention seductive scenes between Angus and Gwendolen that captured my breath. Claimed by the Highlander was a wonderfully written, captivating story, which I was unable to put down. A definite must read!

The ending ended to quickly and Gwen ended up forgiving him so quickly. I expected my heart to be wrenched out but throughout the whole book I felt no compassion or feelings. I wasn't with the two main characters at all. I expected more from this book by the reading. It seems like I didn't understand the main characters well enough to make me feel like I was into the reading. I say this because usually if I am into a book and the characters has captured my attention I would finish the book in one day not even a day, in a few hours. However, with this book I ended up finishing it in a week. Disappointment.

King George gave Kinloch Castle, formerly owned by the MacDonald brood, to the MacEwan clan for their support of him. In 1718, with her dad dead and while her brother Murdoch is overseas, Lady Gwendolyn MacEwan runs Kinloch Castle. Fuming over the loss of what he called home as a child, Angus "the Lion" MacDonald leads a force to reclaim what he believes is rightfully his. His side wins the battle, but his opponent for disclaiming his belief is Gwendolyn. Angus claims her as his wife to be and one day the mother of his children. He knows he is attracted to her independence as well as her beauty. However, Angus is also frustrated with Gwendolyn who demands equal treatment for her clan and the choice of her people to leave if they want to go. As the pair fight, fuss and fall in love, neither is aware of a schemer betraying both of them, but insuring the Lion believes his Lioness is the traitor as the clans appear on the brink of overt hostility. Although the premise has been done many times, Julianne MacLean provides an exciting Scottish historical romance with her second Highlander saga (see Captured by the Highlander). The lead couple is a fabulous pairing of enemy combatants falling in love but even with her carrying his offspring distrust remains a constant. The traitor is obvious for Monday morning quarterbacks as Ms. MacLean provides clues to the culprit's identity yet keeps the audience guessing in this exciting early eighteenth century intrigue. 4.5 STARS. This is my 3rd book my this author and I have enjoyed each one. These books need to be read in order though to enjoy all the rich character's and the reason they behave the way they do. . I love Highlander books and this isn't as good as the previous one, but well worth your money and time. On to the last book of this series, sad it is coming to an end. The character's are so rich. Your heart aches when Angus realizes what he did to Duncan and what love really is.

Claimed by the Highlander is second in this series, and it is a memorable story between a fierce warrior who reclaims his kingdom from the enemy...he claims the daughter of his enemy as well! Very different, and great action.
