Overview

Claimed in Shadows (Midnight Breed Series #15) by Lara Adrian, Hillary Huber

As the son of a formidable Breed warrior, Aric Chase has been devoted to the Order all his life. With his training completed, all he needs is one successful mission before he can join the fight to destroy the Order's chief nemesis, Opus Nostrum. His rare ability to daywalk lands Aric an assignment in Montreal, where he learns he's to be teamed with another new recruit, a beautiful but tough-as-nails Breedmate named Kaya Laurent.

Independent and driven, Kaya wants nothing more than to become a full-fledged member of the Order. Having grown up in squalor and neglect on the streets of Montreal, she longs for the close-knit family she's found during her training to be a warrior. Eager to prove herself, she is thrilled to be given the chance at a key operation-even if she must share the mission with an arrogant, far-too-seductive Breed male who's practically Order royalty. Their unwanted partnership soon erupts into a desire neither of them can resist. But when Kaya's past reaches out from the shadows to call her back, she must decide between protecting a dark alliance that could shatter her dreams of joining the team and a truth that could not only forfeit Aric's faith in her, but bring the enemy right to the Order's door.

Contains mature themes.

This book is a wonderful addition to the Midnight Breed series. Wonderful strong storyline with strong characters. Definitely recommend reading this series. The series starts off strong and introduces great characters, as the books continue you get more characters but you also get to catch up with the rest as well.

Aric Chase is kind of like royalty in the Order as son to Stirling “Harvard” Chase and Tavia. He has worked his way up the ranks and wants nothing more than to run his own team. On his way back from England, he is ordered to take a detour in Montreal in order to aid in an operation only a Daywalker, like him, can do. He is teamed up with Order rookie Kaya who is also dedicated to earning her spot in the Order. They butt heads at first and she doesn’t think much of him. He is a rich charmer that comes across as not having to work too hard for anything in his life, while she grew up poor on the streets and had a rough life until she fell in with the Order. While on their mission, things don’t go as planned and she thinks she has ruined all chance for her to earn a spot on a team. Aric is definitely drawn to her but he isn’t looking for any sort of entanglements, especially not a Breedmate, so he tries to keep his distance but the spirit and drive he sees in Kaya appeals to the same traits he has to accomplish his goals. They work together to try and stop Opus Nostrum and their war against the Breed, but with every lead they discover, someone beats them to it and kills the suspect violently. As more leads die it becomes apparent that they have a mole and Aric can’t help but see that Kaya isn’t being honest with him and is growing more and more distant. It isn’t until it is almost too late to stop the attack that she comes clean about her secrets. It was enjoyable and entertaining. Action packed and passionate. I feel really sorry about his best friend Rafe so I really hope his book is next and whomever he ends up with will definitely have a battle to earn his trust after what happened to him in this book. So good. Want more.

Claimed in Shadows by Lara Adrian is the fifteenth book in her Midnight Breed series. I loved Aric and Kaya's love story! Aric Chase has been devoted to the Order from birth, but he needs one successful mission to prove that he is ready to join the fight to destroy Opus Nostrum. Teaming up with Breedmate Kaya Laurent is a great partnership during this mission and during their downtime also. Now Kaya is trying to keep her past from destroying the family she has found in the team and her relationship with Aric without leading the enemy right to their door. I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

The newest Midnight Breed novel, Claimed in Shadows, is the story of Aric Chase and Kaya Laurent. Kaya is working to prove herself in order to become a member of The Order and her first assignment pairs her with Aric. They quickly become more than just partners, but her past and the secrets that she's keeping comes back to haunt her. Ms. Adrian does it again with another great addition to the Breed series. This series is one of my favorite!

If you haven't started reading this series do!! We are now on to the second generation of Breeds with Aric Chase's story. Aric is so much like his dad and knows what he wants in life. The last thing he expects is to fall for a Kaya. Kaya just wants to be part of the Order to help put an end to Opus Nostrum. Their story just flowed and I couldn't put it down! I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. Now to wait patiently for the next book!!

I hate to say it but this series has lost its spark. Except for an occasional reference you would not even know this was a Breed book.

In Claimed in Shadows, the tension between Opus Nostrum and the Order escalates to a new level. It's as nail biting and spellbinding as the previous books in this series. Aric is different from the other Breed Males and this works to his advantage. He is aiming to join the ranks in the Order, and working hard to get there. Kaya is from a deprived background and having joined the order, she now has a sense of belonging. Something that she didn't have whilst growing up. She is loyal to the cause and values the family dynamics. Aric receives an impromptu order to report to the headquarters in Montreal where he is sent on an ideal mission for his particular ability. This gives him the opportunity to achieve his goal. He is partnered with Kaya who has similar ambitions. Their first encounter is rather comical and whilst Aric likes her fiery side, she thinks that he is overbearing. They are impressed by each other's looks and feel a connection. Neither of them is interested in exploring further as they are not interested in complicating their lives. Can they ignore this pull though? This mission leads them to some disturbing discoveries around the chaos caused by the adversary. There is so much more going on, enough to have more cause for concerns. They work and fit together rather well until a nasty occurrence leads Kaya back to her past. She is torn between her duty and what she might lose if she was to reveal her secret. This secret could destroy her dreams which are now within her reach. It's an ongoing emotional turmoil! I was entranced by this story from the word go. It's fast paced, full of suspense, action packed and addictive. The plot is very well crafted and the twist towards the end is a startling revelation! I have enjoyed Aric's and Kaya's story as much as I did the previous ones. It's a thrilling and captivating read. I was kindly issued with an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

This is one of my favourite vampire series and I think what I love the most is that it isn't about the fact that that's what they are it's about the world and what's going on around them. It's a really interesting series and even though it's been awhile since I read the last one it was really easy to just pick up where I left off. I've always found Aric to be a bit hot headed in previous books and thought he'd be too cocky for me to really like him but boy was I wrong. He's a tough guy but loves those closest too him something fierce. I loved the banter between him and rafé. The family connections are really complex but actually very easy to follow. I do love the kickass Breedmates, I like when their super strong and out there going up against the bad guys. Kaya's still finding her feet and I think with abit more self belief she'd be unstoppable. She's got so much skill she'd be a huge asset to The Order. The two had a lot of fun banter and a really strong connection. They balanced each other out, the chemistry was intense. They main overall story is still moving along nicely, abit slower in this book but I sometimes think it's good to move at a slower pace and catch up with the overall characters as a whole. We get to see lots of different faces in this book and I always look forward catching up with the previous characters. It's got a real family feel and a good addition to the series.
