In the early summer of 1895, the army garrison of Claybourne Barracks, Indiana is awaiting the arrival of a new commanding officer. The summer social season is about to begin with soirées and galas, but dismay and fear suddenly sweeps through Claybourne Barracks as the opium-addicted colonel's paranoiac megalomania and his power-driven wife shatter the stability of the garrison.
