Clear Horizon: The Best of Basia

Basia never had too many hits, racking up only three charting singles on the Top 100 ("Time and Tide," "New Day for You," "Cruising for Bruising"), but Clear Horizon: The Best of Basia remains an engaging listen nevertheless, because it balances those hits with strong album tracks and forgotten singles. Unlike many artists with a handful of hits, Basia made fully realized albums, but since none of them were drastically dissimilar in style, this compilation works very well. Not only is it the ideal choice for the curious and casual fan, it is truly entertaining for the hardcore fan, since it rounds up all the best cuts on one disc.

I heard her first sing many years ago and found myself buying all of her music. She continually amazes me with her ability to perform to standards higher than any current female vocalist. She surrounds herself with exceptionally talented musicians and vocalists that compliment her unique style. In this recording, she again soars with outstanding recordings of her best works. She pours out her soul in all her music but this particular work brings you into her heart. I look forward to hearing from her again with new music but the past recordings are also amazing.

I've loved Basia since she came along in ... whenever it was -- I was on the Basia Bandwagon from just about the start. This album doesn't have much new material [and the new stuff isn't as good as the old, IMHO], but I bought it for the old songs anyway. "Olive Tree" has always been one of my favorite songs; makes me think of sitting outside under a mimosa tree in a Provençal village sipping a diabolo-menthe on a boiling summer day. Many of the other songs have a wonderful Brazilian beat that will have you dancing in your seat -- don't resist the urge to get up!
