well, there's no synopsis here, so i guess i'll give a shot at one: this is the tale of a young man whose mind is falling apart, and who doesn't know whats true and what isn't, his confusion and depression over his world leads him to play russian roulette, so that he can truly enjoy his life when he knows it could be taken away. he discovers that he has the ability to shape the immediate future by throwing himself into a loop that plays all the possible ways a moment could turn out, and then choosing the future that he wants. and there's also a whole subplot with his psychotically whimsical sort-of girlfriend while he worries that he's no more sane than she is.
the story is told by a very talented upcoming author. he shapes the story into a paranoid and off balance experience for the reader, putting together word combinations you won't find anywhere else, describing pieces of the world in a shattered and grimy way that you'll never forget. sentences start without capitalization, and end in a different chapter from where they started, conversations take place without quotation marks, leaving you to wonder what was said out loud and what was only in his head.
a very rough-hewn and raw story and a visceral way of telling it combine to make this an unforgettable read. can't recommend it highly enough. it's a very quick read, but one you won't be able to get out of your head.
also, if you find the price to be too much for such a short book, you can find it for about $4 directly from the publishers at anothersky.org
