HALII PREISS is a mother, a writer and a lover of all things odd. Halii's personality combined with her many years

of working with children has driven her passion and creativity for writing children's books. Halii pursued

writing and English studies throughout her academic years and joined a local writing group in her home town.

Climbing Up A Christmas Tree is her first publication that was inspired by her childhood fantasy

to become so small that she could climb into her family's magical Christmas tree.

Halii enjoys using her experiences and imagination to create stories that are not only enjoyable

for kids but for their parents as well. She is looking forward to publishing many more stories in the future!


GARY GACKSTATTER is an active artist, composer, conductor, clinician,

performer and teacher. Gary has composed six symphonies and authored three books. He has

conducted premiere performances of Elmer Bernstein film scores To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great

Escape, and two symphonies by cellist Eugene Friesen: Grasslands and Carl Sandburg’s Prairie. His

most recent work is Symphony Chaco: A Journey of the Spirit. Also a pen and ink artist, Gary’s work has

been featured at several shows including the St Louis Art Fair. Climbing Up A Christmas Tree is

Gary's first experience having his illustrations featured in a children's book.
