“Welcome to Westen. I’m Lorna Doone. Yep, spelled just like the cookie and I own the Peaches ‘N Cream Café here in Weston. You might think nothing much happens in a small mid-western town, but as my friend Harriett says, things aren’t always what they appear. Take our girl Emma for example…”

Emma Lewis has a lot on her plate. The single mother of two precocious twin boys and an aging mother who is having trouble getting through each day, the last thing Emma needs is a man in her life, especially a doctor. So when the town’s doctor goes on vacation and his handsome nephew takes over, Emma is shocked to not only find him standing in her bedroom, but accusing her of being a neglectful parent.

Clint Preston came to Westen for the year to fill in as the town doc while his uncle took a long needed vacation. Clint also needed a sense of peace and calm to try to find his passion for medicine burned out by long shifts in an urban hospital’s ER. Angered to find two boys in his clinic with broken wrists and no accompanying parent, he is determined to confront their mother. The feisty redhead he meets quickly dispels his belief that she’s a neglectful mother, but he can see her situation is more critical than she wishes to face and finds himself volunteering to help care for her sons and the remodeling of her home.

As Emma and Clint forge a relationship among the slightly off-beat characters that inhabit Westen a menace from Emma’s past threatens her and her sons. Clint and Emma join forces to prevent the loss of either boy and the love they’ve discovered in each other’s’ arms.

A stellar and exiting introduction to the community of Westen! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait to start Book 2!! Clint and Emma are oil and water till two engaging and spirited twins (Ben and Brian)stir the pot! The secondary characters are just as captivating so every page is engrossing! A wonderful story of two people who discover their happy ever after amid danger and distrust, but mostly through friends, family and community! Definitely a great story to read!!

Suzanne Ferrell is a gifted writer. Close To Home is the first book in the Weston Series. It is a series based on a small town in Ohio. From page one you get drawn into the small town and it's citizens. The romance and suspense was fantastic. You not only fall in love with the herione and hero...you fall head over heels in love with the twins! Every character is wonderful. I can't wait for the next book.

This book began well enough, but by the end it was far gone it was almost funny (and not meaning to be). Her ex husband was made into such the evil villian but there was NO quality to him that made you understand why she married him. The main characters traits were overdone with the author having to tell you them without showing the emotion. Not worth the free read.

The writing is stilted and amateurish. Gave up after 20 pages.

This well told story sucked me right in. The unfolsing of the romance was superbly done and I never knew what to expect next. It was such an enjoyable read. I look forward to more books from Suzanne Ferrell.

The doctor is not a likable character and they make the woman seen stupid and naive. Couldn't make it through the whole book.

Definitely NOT a cliffhanger. This is how Emma mat her teenage crush over a decade later and fell all over again. I found the demonization of her ex-husband to be overboard. According to the stortline, he was a sociopath with no humanity in his soul. Dwayne's lack of a single redeeming feature was too one note for me. A love story with a small dash of mystery xcel the day interesting!!! I recommend this to other readers.

Loved this book, the characters and the storyline was great. What's not to love about small town USA. The twins are the sweetest and typical boys. It's great that Doc Clinton was once like them so he related. Emma was an amazing "mama bear". I wish I could move to Western. I am definitely a fan and will be reading more by this author.

've read The Edgars Family series by Ms. Ferrell and loved it, all the suspense, drama and romance roll into one. This is different, but in a good way. There's suspense, but not in the get in your face way. There's drama and issues to deal with, and issues that hit close to my own home in 'Close to Home'. There are two characters that deserve to find some peace and happiness, so there's some sizzle and romance. Then there are absolutely lovable, devious little characters that warm your heart, the twins. This is the kind of book that makes you long for a small town community. The busy bodies that know everybody's business, but would give the shirt off their back to help out in a jam. Lessons are learned, the hard way, for Emma. It seems her past is haunting her and keeps her from moving on. Doc Preston is determined to help her any way he can, if she'll let him.  I'm looking forward to reading the next installment of this series. I know I won't be disappointed with the care that Suzanne Ferrell writes her books.

This is a new to me author, and I had it on my Nook for a long time wait for just the right time to break it out.  I could kick myself for waiting so long.  I really love this story.  I loved the town, the good doctor, the characters and most of all...the twins.  Those two boys made me giggle and sigh and giggle some more.  I really loved Doc's family too.  I am hoping there will be future books about them.

I loved thus book. Romance, drama, suspence & fun all rolled into one. Clint, Emma, Brian & Ben were great, in fact everyonein the town were. This is a book I will read again. Stayed up way past my bedtime to finish. My only complaint is I would have loved an epilogue. GJRA

I truly loved this story about how a mother works two jobs to take care of her sons and meets the towns only doctor and he falls in love with the whole family. Her ex husband tries to take one son just to get money and then wants her and the other son killed. It's wonderful and you laugh and sometimes cry but a wonderful story. I loved the ending?
