A murder takes place at an aristocratic estate. More than a dozen people staying there had motive and opportunity to commit the crime. Can Hercule Poirot solve the case? That’s a rhetorical question, of course. Anyone familiar with whodunit books knows how the formula goes. You go through the rigmarole of suspicion and investigation; then in the end you gather everyone in a room and reveal the culprit: it’s like watching a Scooby Doo episode. I quite enjoyed Sophie Hannah’s revival of Agatha Christie’s iconic detective. Poirot’s ego and distinctive way of speaking are all here. The many characters’ mannerisms and speech are all different from one another, which is very impressive; and the book is also hilarious in places. I plan on reading more of Hannah’s books (with or without Poirot).

A little wordy but pretty well captures Christie's Poirot.

Character are wonderfully written. Mystery is well thought out and told in pure Christiesque style. Hercule is himself as he should be. I am not a literary critic however I have been reading mysteries for 40 years and I enjoyed this one!
