She hopes that her story about fighting stigma, navigating the health services maze and focusing on her own emotional healing will provide a beacon of hope and light for those who are working to support a loved one or are themselves on the path to health and wellness.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Carlsbad, CA - 07-07-2016) - Amy White is proud to announce the release of the book Closer to Paradise: A Mother's Journey through Crisis and Healing, to be released by Motivational Press in August 2016. Amy White finds inspiration from coming through crisis and realizing that there is always the choice to thrive, even after devastating situations occur. Choosing to share the lessons, heartache and successes of her experience so that others can find inspiration, comfort and hope is the purpose of this book. Amy learned so many lessons along the way and stared stigma in the face. While it was a difficult and heartbreaking experience, not telling the story would have only furthered her own despair, and choosing to stay silent would have fueled more shame and blame in her own life.
In the words of Tosha Silver, author of Outrageous Openness: Letting the Divine Take the Lead, "Amy writes with touching candor, offering a heartfelt window into a world often kept hidden - a parent's journey through their child's mental illness. Through meeting perhaps one of the toughest challenges imaginable, she shares poignant wisdom that could benefit anyone, parent or not."
In an engaging interview, Amy White can discuss:
• Mental health and wellness
Kim Boudreau Smith, CEO of Bold Radio Station & KimBSmith Inc. said, "A must-read for every mom or parent out there that is dealing with a child or loved-one experiencing mental health challenges. This journey is heart-shattering, but Amy's raw, real and heartfelt words provide hope for the care-giver that is losing hope, totally exhausted and feeling there is no support. This book will support, encourage, and empathize with every family experiencing crisis."
Closer to Paradise: A Mother's Journey through Crisis and Healing tells the story of how Amy's teenaged son nosedived into a suicidal crisis, and how she became a caregiver overnight. Her initial attempts to partner with her son's treatment team were met with blaming and shaming, complicating the already difficult task of keeping him alive, and having to learn the hard way how to navigate the complex maze of the behavioral health care system. During this situation, Amy learned how to not only survive, but also to thrive, even as what happened broke her wide open. In the end, she found healing as a result of these painful and terrifying experiences, even as her world was crashing down around her.
