This is book # 5 in the Scoring Chances series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader enjoyment and understanding of the series, I recommend reading in order. Shane gets his last season on a team he did not even want. In a place he has to move to - far away from family and friends. He is unsure if he should even make an effort to make friends. He will only have this last season. Troy is tired. He is tired of being thrown players who do not care. Tired of having an assistant who knows nothing of the sport. Tired of being alone. Then Shane arrives, and its all he can do to keep his heart from beating so wild. This story has so much to it. These characters are rich, deep, and sometimes dark. I was really impressed with the author's ability to lay it on the line. I love such honesty from the characters and feel like this is a book I could read again and again. Great addition to the Scoring Chances series. I hope we get more books!

Love this series by Avon Gale. In this book we get new faces, and old, but still the excitement of hockey and romance

~~4.5 stars- Hockey, humor, and HEAT~~ Coach's Challenge was a fun book that had me alternately laughing out loud and blushing furiously thanks to Coach Troy's dirty talk and the steamy scenes. This is the fifth standalone of the series, but the first with the Asheville Ravens and it's easy to read these out of order without it affecting the reader's enjoyment. Troy and Shane were fantastic. I liked their grumpy mutterings and interactions with each other and the secondary characters. They fit together very naturally and their quips had me laughing often. Coach's Challenge is definitely a lighter romance, but it's well crafted and funny without being ridiculous. The writing and dialogue flowed well, keeping a brisk pace throughout the book. I found the conflicts and plot points believable regarding the sport and characters, and I was very happy with the resolution. While I loved all of the characters, I did find the emotional component of Troy and Shane's relationship a little slow to build. There was a lot of physical chemistry which produced a ton of heat on the pages- and in my cheeks- but I started to feel the sex overshadowed the romance. Although the mostly physical relationship was understandable given the men's personal and professional situations, I was eager to see feelings develop. Happily, things moved beyond lust toward the end and I finished the book with a contented smile and chuckle. As I'm a big time hockey fan, I always appreciate when authors work in the details accurately and I enjoy seeing the focus on the ECHL division. Miss Gale includes a perfect mix of hockey terms, game/ practice scenes, and strategy discussions that make this satisfying for readers who love the sport, but not so much that it will drag for those who aren't avid hockey fans. I especially liked that this book works in the coaching aspects and an older player as they finish out their career. This is such a great series filled with wonderful characters, hockey, heat, and romance. Add in the fact that Miss Gale writes my style of humor and I'm completely infatuated. Although Coach's Challenge didn't carry the same emotional spark as other books by this author, I absolutely enjoyed Troy and Shane's story. I think anyone looking for snarky banter, heat, and hockey will enjoy this title. *Reviewed for Alpha Book Club*
