The 27 papers cover spatial cognition, user behavior, user interfaces, cross-cultural influences, computer supported cooperative work, and task analysis and design methodologies. Research directions are also reported from discussion groups. The participants who gathered on the balmy island of Mallorca off the Mediterranean coast of Spain while March raged in their homelands, were specifically chosen to represent a wider range of disciplines than had addressed the subject in earlier conferences. Among the specific topics are the evolution of GIS user knowledge, cognitive and technical aspects of hypermaps, geographic interaction in city planning, and a task analysis approach to the visualization of geographic data.
