Cognitive Space and Linguistic Case: Semantic and Syntactic Categories in Englishby Bas Aarts (Editor), Merja Kyt (Editor), Izchak M. Schlesinger
Arguing that cases result from an interplay of of cognitive, lexical and syntactic factors, Professor Schlesinger develops a new approach to cases which permits better descriptions of cer tain syntactic phenomena than has hitherto been possible. Drawing on evidence from psycholinguistic research and English language data, he challenges the understanding of cases as categories in cognitive space, arguing that they are instead composed of more primitive cognitive notions: features and dimensions.
