This was my first Sheffield book. And I'm hooked. The story and characters were awesome. A true hard sci-fi story (my favorite kind)! As I imagine where and how the human race will expand into our solar system, this book lines up with about 95% of my vision. I'll definitely be reading the sequel.

I purchased this book after reading the back cover and thought it sounded interesting. Overall I would have to say that it was an enjoyable read and I would definitely recommend it to other people but I do have to say that I was disappointed by the ending. I expected something bigger and more dramatic. The ending set the stage for a sequel so maybe there will be a bigger bang in that book.

The long running scientific speculation of life on Jupiter's water laden frozen moon, Europa, sets the stage for this well narrated story. Reading this novel was effortless and very satisfying. I felt the character development was well thought out, easy to follow, and that the different character storylines interacted with each other and never lost focus of the main themes of the novel.

Sheffield is a born storyteller. The book moves beautifully and maintains suspense throughout. His science is a natural outgrowth of the plot and never intrudes. This is a really good book. I look forward to reading more of Sheffield's work.

Very interesting and lots science in it as well. Good story line, too.
