Overview

Cold Blooded (Cold Justice, #10) by Toni Anderson

"Toni's books will make your heart pound and leave you breathless as she takes you on a roller coaster of thrills and danger along with the characters." Kaylea Cross - New York Times and USA Today bestselling author.

A journalist searching for the truth about her best friend's death—and the FBI agent who needs her to stop.

Disgraced investigative journalist Pip West is devastated when she discovers her best friend's body face-down in a tranquil lake. When cops and federal agents determine that her friend overdosed then drowned, Pip knows they're mistaken and intends to prove it.

Special Agent Hunt Kincaid doesn't trust journalists and has no patience for Pip's delusions, especially since her meddling could reveal why the FBI is interested in her friend's last days. The dead scientist worked at the cutting edge of vaccine research and might have a connection to a new, weaponized, vaccine-resistant anthrax strain that just hit the black market.

Pip is thrown off her game by grief and her unexpected attraction to the handsome federal agent. Hunt battles the same unwelcome pull, determined to resist the heat that threatens to consume them both. But the more Pip digs, the closer she gets to both the sexy FBI agent, and to a bioweapons terrorist who's more than capable of cold-bloodedly sacrificing anyone who gets in his way.

About the Author

Toni Anderson is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, RITA® nominee, science nerd, professional tourist, dog lover, gardener, mom. Originally from a small town in England, Toni studied Marine Biology at University of Liverpool (B.Sc.) and University of St. Andrews (Ph.D.) with the intention she’d never be far from the ocean. Well, that plan backfired and she ended up in the Canadian prairies with her biology professor husband, two kids, a rescue dog, and two laid-back leopard geckos. Toni started writing while pregnant with her first child and never stopped. Her greatest achievements are mastering the Tokyo subway, climbing Ben Lomond, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, and surviving fourteen Winnipeg winters (fingers crossed). She loves to travel for research purposes and was lucky enough to visit the Strategic Information and Operations Center inside FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. in 2016, and she also got to shove another car off the road during pursuit training at the Writer’s Police Academy in Wisconsin. Watch out world!

Cold Blooded is another winner from Toni Anderson. Keeping me up well into the night reading about Pip and Hunt and their search for the anthrax dealers. I really felt the emotions that Pip felt when, finding her best friend dead in the lake by her house. It enjoyable to watch the love hate relationship with Hunt and Pip their connection they fought all through the book. As always I was compelled to read this enthralling book in one go, leaving me very tired the next day. Trying to write this without spoilers is difficult, but I was very upset with Toni about the fate of one of the agents. This is a great series and we were introduced to some new characters in this slice of Cold Justice. If you are new to the series, this works well as a standalone as we have the complete story. I can’t recommend this series enough, and have been trying to catch up with the earlier books by listening to some on Audiobook. Okay enough rambling from me I loved this book as it has everything I love, excitement, intrigue, and mystery and even love what else can you asked for? Thank you Toni Anderson.

OMG, this book--crack it open and hang on for the ride! Pip and Hunt's story has many twists and turns, both with their relationship and in the suspense plot. I can't tell you how much time I spent telling various characters in the book, "No, it WASN'T a drug overdose! What's wrong with you people???"--honestly, I think I said it more than Pip did (especially since at one point, even Pip started wondering...) I gasped out loud while reading more than once. And OMG--what Ms. Anderson has happen to one of the characters toward the end--I may never recover. I had to re-read a few paragraphs just to make sure that yes, yes, that did really happen. Argh. Fortunately, she made up for it (kinda, sorta but not totally--but at least she kept me distracted) with some absolutely adorable long-distance(ish) courtship between Pip and Hunt. The last 20% of the book has things happening at breakneck speed--first with the drama of the suspense plot, then with Pip and Hunt--so much so that you almost feel as if you can't take a deep breath until you manage to reach the final page at last. Phew! A lot of people die in this one (it started to feel a little out of control), and at times the story got a little bogged down in some of the science-y anthrax parts of the plot, and yeah, Pip and Hunt go pretty fast from fairly antagonistic to something a lot closer, but still this was one heck of a read. I don't know why I haven't read more of this series' books, but you'd better believe they're all in my TBR now! Cold Blooded is the 9th book in the series, but really should work just fine as a standalone if you've been meaning to pick it up. Rating: 4 stars / A- I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Excellent writing!!! Another very well written suspense. Emotional, intense and consuming. This is the first time that I thought I knew who done it but of course the author threw another twist in and made me doubt my thinking, such a challenge...I love it!!! Characters have depth and the plot has sustenance. He is a cocky agent and she is determined to get in his way, lol. The romance is the icing, the plot can stand without it but it just gives the story that much more heart & spice. I am just amazed every time I read a book in this series, they are just the best ever in this genre!!!! I couldn't put it down and when it ended, I immediately went back a few chapters and started reading it again.

Cold Blooded by Toni Anderson is another installment in the Cold Justice series. Note: this review contains spoilers! It’s a brilliant psychological thriller that has the characters questioning each other and themselves. When Pip finds her friend dead, she knows no ones believes her ideas about her friend’s death. And while the rugged FBI agent Hunt Kincaid doesn’t trust reporters, he can’t get images of Pip out of his head. When a second person from Cindy’s lab turns up dead, everyone is on the suspect list. Will Kincaid be able to figure it out before anyone else dies? Before Pip learns too much and has the cross hairs trained on her? The characters were so well developed in this book, everyone, it seemed, had motive and possibly means. Every time I thought I had it figured out, something happened and I had to come up with a new idea. I would have read it straight through, but I really needed to get some sleep! There’s action, crazy killers, fast cars, and romance. What more could you ask for?

Anderson continues to shine with Cold Blooded, the latest in the Cold Justice Series. Smart and well researched writing, with twists and turns that keep the reader engaged makes this one to recommend to a friend. The characters are genuine and dynamic. I thoroughly enjoyed this trope and the hot topic subject. Agent Hunt Kincaid doesn't trust journalists and that includes recently outcast investigative reporter, Pip West. But when her best friend is found dead, she will do whatever it takes to prove it was not suicide, including getting involved in Agent Hunt's case. He will do whatever it takes to keep her on the outside of the true reason for his involvement in this investigation. I highly recommend this novel to fans of the contemporary romantic suspense genre. I voluntarily read and reviewed a complementary copy of this book.

Cold Blooded by Toni Anderson is another exciting novel concerning a murder investigation that leads to the all too real threat of bio-terrorism. The strong elements of mystery add to the suspenseful mood of this book making it a spine-tingling read. This is a strength of Toni Anderson’s book that she pulls the reader into the story and the emotions of the characters. Pip West, an investigative reporter, deals with the death of a close friend. This leads to her to putting those career skills into practice. The FBI, especially Special Agent Hunt Kincaid, are trying to hinder Pip’s search for answers. It is not exactly an “enemies to lovers” story but these two are definitely opponents in the beginning. The romance slowly heats up as the danger and suspense builds making this an attention gripping read. The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Pip West, an investigative journalist, is running away from trouble; only to run into worse trouble involving the loss of her BF. To complicate the situation no one believes her assertions surrounding her BF’s death, including SA Hunt Kincaid. Hunt has good reason not to trust journalists, which only confounds his feelings about Pip and her involvement in the federal case he is investigating. While they both are searching for the truth for their own reasons, they find their feelings for each other deepening. Facing personal bodily harm and the potential threat of weaponized anthrax on the black market, Pip and Hunt find themselves not only fighting against a real menace but also against their personal feelings for each other. This is an intense, compelling, and suspenseful romance. The character development is solid, effortlessly drawing the reader into the lives of the characters. There’s intrigue, emotions, heartache and romance. The narrative will keep you on the edge of your seat while trying to figure out who the bad guys really are. Once you start reading, you will find it hard to put down. I highly recommend this book! It works well as a standalone, even if you have not read the previous stories in the series. I am voluntarily providing an honest, unbiased review of an ARC of this book.

COLD BLOODED Another great story .We meet Pip, an investigator journalist, quitting her job, and headed to the home of her friend Carol. The police said overdose, and suicide. Pip says murder, and weaves her way thru politics, bio weapons, to prove them wrong. Agent Hunt with FBI can’t let her know he doesn’t like journalists. They keep bumping into each other, and a romance maybe, and to work together, to prove murder. In-depth plot and characters, you know them, and watching the steps they are taking. The plot catches you from beginning to the ending, and won’t disappoint readers.

Cold Blooded by Toni Anderson is the 9th book in her Cold Justice series. It's an exciting and suspenseful standalone romance, with some twists and turns as a disgraced journalist and an FBI agent cross paths in the search for a murderer. Journalist Pip West's last assignment turned deadly for an innocent woman and her family. Seeking a new start, she's shown up on the doorstep of her friend Cindy only to discover Cindy's dead body. The police want to blame it on a drug overdose and bad choices, but Pip knows there is more to the story. Special Agent Hunt Kincaid has been tasked with tracking down the source of weaponized anthrax that has turned up on the black market. When a biotech researcher who is developing an anthrax vaccine turns up dead, he's on the case. Pip's presence is unwelcome, no matter that she's a friend of the deceased. It's possible she's involved in some way, and Hunt aims to keep her close as he works to uncover the truth. Their attraction to each other leads to even more complications. But will they get the chance to explore a relationship before time runs out? This is one of those stories that will keep you up late at night to find out what happens next! Pip and Hunt are coming at the investigation with different motives. For Pip, grieving her friend's ignominious death, the drug overdose theory doesn't ring true for her friend who never was into that scene. For Hunt, a deadly weapon could be in the wrong hands and Pip's friend could have something to do with it. Hunt can't tell Pip the real reason he's involved in the investigation of Cindy's death but she is able to convince him to look more deeply into the cause and soon finds herself caught up in something even more deadly. There were some plot points that I was able to guess ahead of time and others that caught me completely off guard. It's a gritty story that doesn't shy away from the reality of death nor the destruction that can occur with a biological weapon like anthrax. The author has clearly researched the topic well and this adds to the authenticity of the plot. The romance between Hunt and Pip doesn't happen right away as there must be a measure of trust between them before they succumb to their attraction. The story culminates in some action packed and harrowing scenes before the happy ending for the couple. If you like suspenseful and page turning reads, you'll want to have Toni Anderson on your shelf.

Pip is a journalist who decides to jack in her job and join her best friend. But when she gets there she finds her friend dead. Hunt is the FBI agent assigned to Cindys death. Can they get past their attraction to each other and solve the mystery. A great book but it would have been nice to see some past characters  in more depth
