When I was fourteen years old, I killed for the first time. That day I learned cruelty wasn’t only within the walls we had just escaped.
It hasn’t been easy growing up in the middle of a war. A struggle to find shelter. Fighting to protect our bodies against the corruption of the streets. Nobody cared about the street kids who had to beg and steal to eat.
We are the Portland Street Kings – A family forged through loyalty, not blood. To get through this life of broken dreams alive, we’ve become hard, uncaring and merciless. We do what must be done to keep our family safe, we will harm those who stand against us.
We have it all, feared and respected by those on the streets. Then she collided into my world, and with her came demons from my past, back to haunt us all.

Collision was the kind of story I like and I loved it. Piper and Slater loved each other for many years and was glad they found each other again.

Collision (Portland Street Kings #1) by Evie Harper 5 Buckle Your Seat Belt Stars I floved this whole story. It is action packed and the story just flows so smoothly. I could not put this one down. I grew up around drag racing so this was a treat to read a story that is on point and has it in it along with some really hot, hot scenes. This book had me on the edge of my seat at times.  Slater and Piper's story blew me away and I am hoping that it continues in book #2. Slater and Piper both have a story to tell and Evie Harper did a wonderful job in writing it. Evie Harper took my on one hell of an action packed ride.  So buckle your seat belts ladies cause Evie Harper will take you for one hell of an awesome ride with this book!!!

WOW! That was a seriously intense read. So much happened and there are so many things I can’t talk about because of potential spoiler issues. I loved it though, I really freaking loved it. Collision is an adrenaline-filled read that kept me on the edge of my seat and glued to my Kindle. I couldn’t read fast enough and just when I thought I had a handle on what was going on, Ms. Harper would throw a twist in the mix to shake things up. Of course, THE TWIST (and when you read the book, you’ll know what I’m referring to) wasn’t even on my radar. I never saw that coming. Unfreakingbelievable!  Collision’s Prologue is devastating. Learning what those children witnessed and endured is absolutely heartbreaking and it makes their actions, especially Slater’s, as adults understandable. Of course the fact that Slater is serving up a beat down on a bully – an adult bully I might add – for making fun of a woman who stutters pretty much made me fall in love with him instantly. The bathroom sex that he and Piper engage in shortly thereafter … YOWSER! Seriously hot! I am not a fan of public bathroom sex, but Slater could change my views on that location. The voyeur in me definitely enjoyed their repeated trysts, but the romantic in me was giddy when Slater asked Piper out on a date. But the moment the author revealed Piper’s profession, I braced for heartache because the writing on the wall was in glow-in-the-dark neon paint for what was coming when Slater found out. As expected, Slater delivered some serious fireworks when he learned where Piper worked and the street thug revealed that his tongue was just as damaging as his brass knuckles.  When Slater’s interest in her puts Piper’s life in danger, he does what comes naturally to him and assumes responsibility for her safety. I loved how Piper meshed so well with Slater’s family and that as she spent time with them and they got to know her, they let go of their resentment toward her profession and embraced her as a person. Despite the gang wars, the illegal street racing, the fights, and the danger that permeates the lives of the Portland Street Kings, Collision is ultimately a tale of forgiveness and acceptance that just happens to be packaged in a seriously hot and sexy story. Again, I was completely blown away by the twist at the end and the drastic measures that Slater took to insure Piper’s safety floored me. I cannot wait for the next book in the series to find out what happens next, so please Ms. Harper, write quickly! I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.  Reviewed by Angela at Crystal's Many Reviewers!

Overall Rating:  4.25 Rockin Stars Evie Harper offers us the beginning of her new series Portland Street Kings in Collision.  This is about a hodgepodge group of characters that form a strong alliance that is more of a family than a gang.  At the head of the notoriously dangerous group is Slate, a mouth-watering dominating leader that will capture your heart with his efforts to nurture and protect his followers.  Piper is a newbie to the Portland area and stumbles across him at a bar, when a jerk starts making fun of her for stuttering. Slate puts an end to it with his fists.  This is the journey they take while searching for a happily ever after. As the author develops each character, you learn their strengths and weaknesses.  Slate's upbringing turned him into a true thug.  He rules his territory with an iron hand and no tolerance for those that go against him.  His hatred of the system that had abandoned him and his siblings so many years ago to Phillip, a pedophile slowly destroys him.  The memory of his dead sister at the hands of Phillip haunts him daily.  Piper works for the system and believes she can place children in a safe and good home.  The delicate balance between her work and relationship with Slate is continually put to a test. The beginning of the story is hot and heavy.  The secondary characters while not the main focus are still pulled to the forefront and their role complimented the main characters actions.  It is a testament to how excellent an author Evie Harper truly is.  She has the ability to pull the reader into her drama.  At times I felt horror and loss, happiness and sadness, hope and fulfillment.  The outcome left me stammering because I really had no idea what was going to happen and when it was revealed I was stunned and shocked at the amazingly twisted ride I was on.  I look forward to the next book in this series and what Ms. Harper will confer upon us.

4 star The story has laughs, suspense, pain, kidnapping, secrets, attempted murder and heartbreak.  This is Piper and Slater’s story. Slater has tried to guide and protect his family from an early age.  He is now the leader of the Street Kings.  Now only does he take care of his family but also the children in his town.  He is a fierce protector and meets Piper one night when he defends her against another man.  While Piper and Slater form a weird series of one night stands. Secrets end up coming out that will change the course of both of their lives.  But with the pull between them both being so strong can they fight that pull to keep away from each other?  When the past comes back for them will they be ready?  Will it be what they expected?  Will it break them more than they are already broken?  Or will the truth finally set them free?     I loved these characters and also the side characters. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.  I recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story in this series.  Will have a long wait for that book so I hope the wait is worth the next story.
