Color•ism ( color + ism )
- the property possessed by an object of producing different sensations on the eye as a result of the way the object reflects or emits light.
- a suffix appearing in loanwords from Greek, a distinctive doctrine, theory, system, or practice
The term "Colorism"is first coined by Alice Walker in 1982 ,which means people are treated differently based on social meanings attached to skin color.
In the field of arts, "Colorism" is the new religion of coloring. A practice of giving meaning to a lifeless space. Coloring techniques and theories in different perspective, belief to present visual creativity that will appeal usefully as intended. The idea of coloring can give you hope from something blank, that you have the ability to create your own piece, to have a story to tell, to build your individuality and compose yourself freely.
Colorism can change everything, the way someone see it maybe nothing but through formulation of color, it may transform how people accept it, think and believe on it . It is also an expression to communicate without literal words. A reflection of emotion. A symbol of anything you wanted to show.
It's like "realism" (real + ism), an skillfully made art piece, proportion in movements, size and color of what we see in real life by our naked eye. "Cubism" a movement in art that began in France in 1907 that is characterized by the use of interlocking geometric planes and shapes, where Pablo Picasso is the one who popularized first. "Pointillism"- first used to describe the work of French artist Georges Seurat using small, distinct dots of pure color, arranged into patterns that formed a beautiful image.
