Overview

Enter the exciting world of Colt and his friends in this harrowing adventure that promises very poor odds for continued good health.

When twelve-year-old Colt Humboldt's dad drags the two of them from perfectly good Texas to ancient Scotland for a fresh start, Colt knows he's doomed to a summer as the "new kid". No friends, no fun, no life as he knows it.

Fat chance.

That very first night, the peculiar Alesone and her more peculiar little brother Peter crawl out of Colt's closet, begging for his help to save their family from a horrible fate.

Fortunately, the secret for doing so is hidden inside a mysterious book.

Unfortunately, this book demands that our ragged trio first journey across Scotland and capture three treasures-treasures fiercely protected by a shadowy, treacherous world determined to see Colt fail...

...preferably by death.

But if Colt and his new friends can survive a horror novel come-to-life, defeat a madman and his minions, win over a disagreeable folklore legend, and discover the shocking reason why Alesone and Peter are just so odd... well, the next two treasures won't come so easily.

About the Author

T.A. Anderson holds degrees in Engineering and Law and has lived mostly in Illinois, Georgia, and now Southern California, with stops in South Florida and New Orleans. The saga of Colt and his friends was conceived from the tragic story of Mary King's Close and nourished by the great books from wherever Colt's adventures lead (present tense, as more books are coming). Possibly a very small bit of staring out windows while daydreaming may have been involved.

4 STARS This is a fast paced adventure series, at least the first book of one. It is aimed at middle school readers but readers of any age can enjoy. At one point I got the idea their might be 5 books to series another place only 3. So I will have to wait and see. The main characters are children. Who I liked and wanted the best for them. Colt Humboldt is 12 year old boy from Texas. His father just moved them to Scotland. Colt is not happy to be in Scotland. Alesone is around age 12 to. She came out of Colt's closet having been chased by soldiers. She is brave and wants to help her family. She needs to talk to a Priest. Peter is 6 years old. He does not talk. But he sure communicates what he wants very well. He is curious and brave. Peter is willing to fight things he does not know about. The three of them work together to find a way for Alesone & Peter to get back home where they can help save their family. Alesone and Peter do not know about bathrooms, radios, cars and are dressed really in rags and no shoes. They find a book that shows what they have done or need to do to get home. It changes what the pages say when different people read it. Their are a lot of Scottish folklore in the story that I was not to familiar with. It was nice to see what they have over their. The book is full of action, adventure and danger. Also has some of the story dealing with the black plague and all the deaths that it caused. Their were a few places in the story that I got lost in and found a little confusing. The ending lefts some questions that I had unanswered that might be answered in the next book of the series. I would like to see where this series goes from here. I was given this ebook to read for purpose of giving a honest review of it by Netgalley.
