Come-On! Cents by Chris Murtagh

Lead, follow, or get out of the way. —Thomas Paine

Can you imagine the possibility of America's industries and economy growing at rates never seen before, unemployment below 2%, gasoline prices rolled back to 1970 price levels, booming manufacturing infrastructure, increases in education, medical and infrastructure spending and a government focused on expanding the economy by actually leading the charge? Come-On! Cents challenges the perceived norm, judges our decisions not on their moral fiber but on the effect of their economic consequences, teases our common sense and, more importantly, attempts to shake us from our stupor into a new purpose. Come-On! Cents absorbs the 13 million homes in the USA standing vacant, sparks tremendous infrastructure growth, and renews the calls for growth and expansion that defined our country. Author Chris Murtagh places government as the leader, not the de facto facilitator, redefines our purpose, and brings into question why and how we got here, providing a roadmap to launch the country into a new era of growth, prosperity, and purpose. Join Murtagh in this journey as he looks back at the decisions we the voters made over the years and the entertaining consequences of those decisions.

I was planning to slowly read this book on my holiday, but i failed! regardless of one's politics, this book is great fun to read and difficult to stop. The simplicity of the charts and the data presentation brought me closer to the economical problems that this country is facing and engaged me in the arguments.I especially enjoyed the historical statistics that backed up the presentations with solid and understandable evidence. Looking at the country as a business was at first a bit uncomfortable, though it shouldn't have been....this is one country who makes business from all. I may not entirely agree with all proposals, but for the first time in a long while, could seriously appreciate the reasons behind the author's point of view and the proposed massive commitment required to redirect US economy. Politicians are well advised to get their own copies! I will carry this book with me for some time , as a conversational piece !

The best "small paperback" that I have read in the last 10 years!!! A "must read" for Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, and ALL of our elected officials, and a remarkably fresh approach to the seemingly insurmountable challenges facing our country today. This is a remarkably realistic and eye opening narrative of a (fictional) executive corporate board that meets to analyze the current problems of America and offer innovative solutions from a business perspective. From the genuinely matter-of-fact dialog to the "order of business" format, this has obviously been penned by someone with "real world" insight into the corporate board room and not an author jaded by the art of "fiction". The discussions are backed by statistics, thought provoking, and based on historical data. To the author's credit. in the interests of minimizing emotional bias, his intrusions into the world of politics, ethics, or personal persuasions are minimized or set aside completely. By examining modern day "America" in the context of a corporate business model, it seeks to identify losing propositions, provide hard statistics that highlight failed endeavors, offer remedies and alternatives supported by real data, convert non-performing assets into profitable ventures, and suggests discarding those failed experiments that cannot possibly be salvaged in favor of "profitable" investment in a sustainable future for our country. Not overly drawn out and easy to read if you have even the slightest bit of business sense. Straight from the heart from a relatively unknown author whose novel entrepreneurial approach recalls the problem solving creativity that embodies all that we, as Americans, have defined ourselves by from our very beginning.

Good Lesson and Enlightening!!!! Finally! A book about economics that won't put you to sleep. In fact, you won't be able to put this going to be bestseller down. In our challenging economic climate, this book is more than a good read, it’s a necessary investment—with a blessedly sure rate of return. .

Very, very interesting read. I thought it was insightful and thoughtful. The idea of looking at the country as a business, in terms of it's products, suppliers, employees, etc., is a novel way of approaching the entire set of problems and issues now facing our country.

Revolutionary, inspirational, and thought provoking! Sometimes the best way to attack the problem is to turn it upside down - Cmon Cents! is a master piece of questioning the state of our country in reflection of the promises of our forefathers and begs the question of who is responsible for the mess that we're in and how do we get out?

Wow! A lesson in self accountability and how a nation allowed its individual freedoms and prosperity to be traded due to lack of focus. If only one of these recommendations were followed it would have a significant affect on our freedom and economy. A must read for the new President.
