3.75 stars-goth rock, addiction and betrayal:  :  3.75 stars--COME UNDONE is the first installment in Madelynne Ellis’s adult, contemporary ROCK HARD erotic romance series focusing on Xane Geist, front man and lead singer of the goth rock band Black Halo and Daniella Fosbrook- a reluctant groupie whose life is about to change when she meets Xane Geist- a larger than life persona whom Dani had come to depend upon in her darkest hours. ROCK HARD is the companion series to BLACK HALO featuring Black Halo’s lead guitarist Ash Gore. COME UNDONE is a story of insta-love, heartbreak and loss. Told from two distinct third party points of view, the focus of the storyline is the break up of the band Black Halo. As the founder and front man for the band Xane feels he has been betrayed by the two people he loves most in the world.  Enter Daniella Fosbrook, a fan and the woman who would show Xane that there is more to life than heartbreak and betrayal.   Xane’s life has centered on the rise and success of Black Halo and his friendship with the band will be irrevocably strained when secrets and hidden feelings are revealed. The relationship between Xane and Daniella begins as one of convenience. Xane needs to run; to get away from everything that has to do with Black Halo, and Dani is in the right place at the right time. While Xane strives for normalcy, Dani struggles with dark demons from the past and the unwelcome memories of abandonment and abuse.   Xane is a man who likes to tempt fate; nothing is off limits and he is willing to throw caution to the wind, any and every time sex is involved. He uses sex as a means to escape –an addiction- and Xane likes to escape at every opportunity, no matter where or how.  Dani is the quiet, less experienced female whose earlier years have resulted in too many emotional and physical scars. Their time together will reveal a world that is all too familiar and one that Dani has a difficult time accepting. Abandoned by her father, and raised in a religious commune by her mother, Dani’s introduction into Xane’s world is both an escape and a fall into the abyss. The backstory of what led to the disintegration of the band is slow to reveal as the majority of the storyline concentrates on Dani and Xane’s building relationship. There is a slight twist to the premise; one that reveals the bonds between friendship and love, and a twist that will affect Dani’s perception of Xane and the band. The supporting and secondary characters include the members of the band-Ash Gore, Jan ‘Spook’ Mortensen, Elspeth Shriik,  drummer Steve Matlock, and Paul ‘Rock Giant’ Reed. The world building concentrates on Xane’s troubled family, his relationship with the band, and the fall out of betrayal, stalker paparazzi and rabid fans. Madelynne Ellis pulls the reader into the world of goth rock, addiction, sex and betrayal. There are moments of passion laced with need, want and seduction. The storyline does not end on a happily ever after but a bit of a cliffhanger that will expose an even uglier side of fame and fortune. I really hate cliffhangers, or stories that just… end without any real ending. That was the case with this book. I have completely mixed emotions about this book because of the way that the characters were acting throughout it all. I mean to start with, you have Dani who just jumps at the chance to run away with Xane. She has no freaking clue who this guy is, yet she’s leaving to go away with him? That’s just stupid on many levels and it automatically makes me not like her. Now we have Xane and I have mixed thoughts of this man. On one hand, I do want to like him, I really do. But then as the story goes on, he just bothered me more and more. Overall, I think that this book would be more of a rainy day read. *Received an ARC for honest review*

4 I-Didn’t-See-That-Coming Stars! I was taken by surprise when I read Madelynne Ellis’ Come Undone. I was intrigued by it just from the synopsis, hence the reason I requested a copy for review. But man, did I get more than I bargained for. Xane Geist, frontman for Goth-metal band, Black Halo, sexy as sin, full of secrets, and disbanding the group right in the middle of a sold-out show. Enter Daniella Fosbrook. Always following the rules in order to stay under the radar, Xane’s #1 Fan, rebellious in any way when it comes to Black Halo and secrets that stem from the marks that cover her skin. Caught between his band members and no way to escape, Xane seeks the help of Dani who had lost her way backstage. Slipping through the doors out into the night, Xane and Dani start on an unknown adventure to discovering themselves, the secrets they carry, the secrets of those around them and what life and love means to them. Xane and Dani are characters with extreme personalities that open you up, make you sit on the edge of your seat, never letting you stop reading about their tale. Their sexual chemistry is off the charts and hot hot hot. Madelynne explores not just heterosexual relationships, but capturing relationships in all regards. Yes, complete with cliffhanger, I cannot wait to read the next book, yet I feel satisfied with Xane and Dani’s relationship. (I received an ARC via NetGalley for my review and this is my honest-to-goodness, straight from the heart review!)

Xane is a Goth rocker fed up with the way his band, Black Halo, treats him and the fact his best friend married his girl behind his back. During one of their concerts Xane announces the band is over...he has had enough. Dani is a huge Black Halo fan....Their music has gotten her through so many dark times in her life she feels connected to Xane. While trying to find her way back stage to watch the concert she runs into Xane right after he announces the band is done. Dani can't believe her luck when he asks for a ride and the adventure begins. Fights, sex, international travel, and an insatiable Rock star Dani is in for the ride of her life. I thoroughly enjoyed Madelynne's Come Undone. I did not want to put it down....it had me from the first page! I felt happy, sad, excited, hurt, and tortured right along with Dani and Xane. I cannot wait until Book two comes out and I find out if Dani and Xane continue their love affair and if Black Halo rises from the ashes or if it is really kaput!
