COMFORT CROCHETED AFGHANS: THREE HEIRLOOM BLANKETS FOR HOME AND FAMILY by Norah Gaughan contains the instructions to make three of the afghans from COMFORT KNITTING & CROCHET: AFGHANS by the same author. The latter book is much larger as it contains over 50 afghan patterns.  The three patterns spotlighted in this smaller sampler book include Fish Ripples which is a delightful baby blanket. The colorful undulations of this blanket are reminiscent of schools of small fish swimming in the ocean. The second included pattern is Marrakesh which reflects the city of Marrakesh's exotic flavors and rich tones. The solid background is embellished with monochromatic floral embroidery. The final included pattern is Serpentine worked in a neutral color with highly dimensional ruffles found in nature.  As in the larger book, all the patterns are crocheted in Berroco Comfort yarn which is hyperallergenic and machine washable and dryable. It is made of 50% nylon and 50% acrylic. The three afghans are illustrated beautifully and the patterns are clear and well-written. Stitches are explained. The patterns are aimed at all skill levels from beginner to advanced.  These patterns are each different and they make me want to pick up my hook! If you want more of a choice, you should really consider the larger book with over 50 patterns.

Title: Comfort Crocheted Afghans - Three Heirloom Blankets for Home and Family Author: Norah Gaughan, Margery Winter, Berroco Design Team Publisher: Open Road Intergrated Media Published: 6-24-2014 ISBN: 9781497650787 ASIN E-Book: B00KQ6PJAY Pages: 19 Genre: Crafts Tags: Crochet, Home, DIY Overall Rating: Great Reviewed For: NetGalley Reviewer: DelAnne Three afghans for different levels of skill. The first, fish ripple, is the easiest to do and is bold and beautiful. A fairly quick project to add a dash of color to a room or as a gift. I completed the one for my nephew's birthday in two days. The second, Marrakesh, gives a touch of Morocco's exotic culture. Beautiful as a touch of color and perfect to spruce up a plain dorm room, which is what I plan for the one I am making for my niece who is off to college this fall. The third one is the most elegant and to me the most difficult of the three, but I fell in love with it anyway. I so am imagining this as a cover throw for the guest room. Luckily for me it is done in sections so I can take breaks between them. Three very different styles, but each is gorgeous in their own way. As can be attested to in the lovely photographs of them.
