About the Author

Lori Tankel was first introduced to horses when she was a toddler, by her grandparents on their farm outside of Pittsburgh, Pa. and she never stopped loving horses. Lori's equine experience spans over 5 decades in areas of barn owner and manager, vet tech, competitor in eventing, dressage, hunters and jumpers; trainer, instructor, pony club volunteer, co-founder of an equine rescue, and more. While a volunteer for her daughter's pony club, she began to write about the care of horses, which grew into her blog, Common Sense Horse Keeping. Relying on her experiences and how she saw horses being cared for in boarding stables, the blog expanded into a guide for barn owners and managers, as well as the horse owner. She resides on her farm in DeLeon Springs, Florida, with her husband, Peter, and a menagerie of farm animals, which includes donkeys, goats, chickens, ducks, dogs, cats, and her OTTB, Gabriel.
