About the Author

John G. Meyer, Jr. retired from the U.S. Army in 2001 as a Major General after 33 years of service, including assignments in Vietnam and Germany. He began his career as a military police officer and held several senior leadership and HR positions. Prior to retirement he served as the Army’s senior Public Affairs Officer. He led and managed the U.S. Army’s global and strategic communication strategy. He conceptualized, designed, and implemented an award-winning crisis communications strategy for the Army during a period of intense media and congressional scrutiny. He also served as the CEO of the Army’s international morale and recreation business encompassing all Army quality of life programs. He is a graduate of Florida State University and obtained a Masters of Arts degree from Sam Houston State University. He is also a graduate of Duke University’s Advanced Management Program and the FBI’s National Academy. He authored “Company Command: The Bottom Line,” as a way of sharing leadership experience and lessons learned from a wide variety of sources. Since its publication Company Command has become a leadership staple used by the Army and other branches of the service. After retirement, he served as the CEO and President of the Allied Defense Group, Inc. and later served as the CEO of Heckler & Koch, an international small arms company. He continues to serve Soldiers and their family members as an advisor to the Chairman, Vice Chairman and to the CEO of the Army and Air Force Exchange Service. He is also a special adviser to the Chairman and Director of the National Military Family Association.

MAJ Spencer Beatty has authored the following titles: Beans to Bullets- Logistics for the Non Logistician and the Military Decision Making Process (MDMP)- A guide for staff officers and NCOs. He enlisted in the Army in 2001 and served four years in the JAG Corps as a paralegal specialist with the 101st Airborne Division. He completed OCS and was commissioned as an Armor Officer in 2005. In 2010 Major Beatty transferred to the logistics branch. He has commanded two companies and has drawn upon this experience and lessons learned while co-authoring Company Command with Major General (R) Meyer. He is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College (16-17). His deployments include three tours to Iraq (03, 06, 08), and one tour to Afghanistan (2009). Major Beatty is married to his lovely wife Lori. They have two sons, one of whom serves in the U.S. Navy.
