I am a former Nixon scholar and this is the best book i have found on all the presidents. This book has every detail one needs to better understand our Chief Executives and Commander In Chiefs.

It used to be a great book to hand people and say 'here are the basics'. I was greatly disappointed when I purchased the 'updated' 5th edition which contains numerous omissions in biographical data. Still not there, in 2001 edition, is a death date for Nixon (died 1994) or Justices Burger (died in 1995), Marshall (1993), Blackmun (1999), etc. It seems to me that the only 'update' was information regarding Geo W Bush. They weren't thorough even in that because they didn't bother to go back to his father's bio and make a note under 'children' saying see '43rd president of the US'. I hope they review the past 9 administrations to correct all the bios in the 6th edition.

I found this book to be a wonderful and fairly complete reference on the U.S. Presidents. Of course, this edition was published in 1993, so a previous reviewer's rants that events which occurred in 1994 are omitted, are unreasonable.

As an owner of the 1997 update of the book, I was disappointed that only the Clinton chapter was updated. It failed to mention in the Bush chapter that son George W. Bush was elected Governor of Texas in 1994 and son Jeb Bush was defeated in the Florida Governor's race that same year. Furthermore, in the Reagan chapter, his 1994 revelation of the Alheimer's diagnosis was not mentioned. In the Carter chapter, the former president's historic 1994 trip to Haiti was not mentioned. In the Nixon chapter is the notable ommission of his death in 1994. In the Kennedy chapter, there is no mention of his widow's death in 1994. Furthermore, in the Taft chapter, his daughter, Helen Manning Taft was listed when in fact she died in 1987.
