The only thing missing from this book is how to use a clicker with your trick training. It is awesome for the do it yourself crowd who don't want to pay over $100 per class for obedience and trick training classes. The only downfall is that your dog doesn't get the socialization with other dogs that it would get in class. BUT if your dog already socializes well you can save a ton of money from classes and teach the tricks yourself with this book. Between Animal Planet and the tips and tricks in this book, I have gone into Petsmart with my dogs and been mistaken for a professional trainer. I have learned a lot from this book and refer back to it constantly. The book instructs you not to skip around, and I definetly recommend not skipping the first couple of Obedience Chapters, but if your dog doesn't respond to certain types of tricks, skip them and move on. The book itself, explains that certain dogs respond better to certain tricks and it is evident just between my two dogs. Since I have started, my dogs love to train and have started picking up the benefits of showing off their tricks in just a couple of months. This book definetly has more bang for the buck if you are interested in teaching your dog new tricks on your own.
