Overview

The Complete Poetry and Selected Prose of John Donne by John Donne

This Modern Library edition contains all of John Donne's great metaphysical love poetry. Here are such well-known songs and sonnets as "A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning", "The Extasie", and "A Nocturnall Upon S. Lucies Day," along with the love elegies "Jealosie", "His Parting From Her", and "To His Mistris Going to Bed". Presented as well are Donne's satires, epigrams, verse letters, and holy sonnets, along with his most ambitious and important poems, the Anniversaries.

In addition, there is a generous sampling of Donne's prose, including many of his private letters; B>Ignatius His Conclave, a satiric onslaught on the Jesuits; excerpts from Biathanatos, his celebrated defense of suicide; and his most famous sermons, concluding with the final "Death's Duell".

"We have only to read [Donne]," wrote Virginia Woolf, "to submit to the sound of that passionate and penetrating voice, and his figure rises again across the waste of the years more erect, more imperious, more inscrutable than any of his time."

Reading John Donne's poetry is both soothing and exciting. I've read his poetry when feeling sad and always feel better. Each or his poems can be read over and over, and you'll find something different each time. Donne is the best of the 17th century poets.

Great summation of his major works. Great intro text with his secular works, Holy Sonnets, and sermons. The reader will see Donne's thematic development over his career, particularly the metaphysical and as the late Dr. Clements would argue his adventures in "contemplation and psychedelic" experiences.

I know how you feel; you just need a hint to get your mind to solve the riddle. Here's my hint, but could you return the favor if I need help down the road? Thanks. Here's the hint: Could 'spelled incorrectly' actually be spelled 'incorrectly?' If you don't get it, let me know! -Guider

We seek out individuals with determination, intelligience, and desire. At the end of all the ciphers when you meet us, you will be asked a simple yes or no question. After you have answered, we will tell you our purpose and why we have been seeking highly intelligient individuals. If you are just doing these for your own amusement, think again. The reward is for those with the true desire and will of fire. No cipher this post, just a simple riddle: "What word in the english language is always spelled incorrectly?" The answer consists of only one word. Take it, put it in the search box, and go to the second result. Good luck.
