I received a review copy of this book from HK. Here are my impressions: First off let me say that I am new to triathlons. I hope to compete later this season. This books is broken down into 4 categories: Training, Technique, Competitive Strategy, and Triathlon Lifestyle. It seems to give a broader picture of the sport and how it impact your life (and pocketbook). It specifically focuses on preparing yourself both physically and mentally for the race though it also has a chapter on gear selection for all budgets. One thing I really like about this book is that it has lots of authors, each writing on their topic of expertise. Do to where I am in my training I have found the drills and workouts to be the most helpful. In the future I expect the other sections to benefit me more. I have found this book to be very informative as it gives a great base and overview as I get started in this sport.

I found this book to be exceptional! This book jumps right into training in the first chapter, offering goals & strategies for athletes 12 and under through adults! It stresses the importance of making goals & developing your program to fit your needs from females, youth, to beginners. There is an entire chaprter on the benefits of Yoga, which I loved because other books on this topic are not as informative on all your muscles & connective tissues. This alone was a great help, & relief when done before bed & waking up. Chapter four is all about strength training, & offered photos of how to perform each exercise properly & what it was best for in a triathlon. The following chapters offer assessments, drills, pace, & information regarding atmospheric conditions & how your body will react! Informative about nutrition & injuries, a total body conditioning guide & a must have for anyone that is interested in triathlons.

Comprehensive and helpful, but aimed at experienced athletes This is a comprehensive guide to training and competing in triathlons. It begins by covering the basics of creating a yearly training regime, then describes training strategies and technique drills, it discusses techniques to use prior to and during races, and finally discusses injuries, nutrition, choosing gear, and choosing a coach. Although this book is advertised for triathletes of all levels, it would be most helpful to experienced (or very determined) athletes or for coaches. This is not a book for beginners or for people who just want to train for triathlons simply "for fun" or to get into good shape.
