Description: This is the third edition of an extensive study guide for the updated CRT and RRT NBRC credentialing exams. The previous edition was published in 2013.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a thorough review to help students successfully pass the updated 2015 NBRC credentialing exams. Despite NBRC's new testing matrix, this guide has been updated accordingly and continues to be a valued resource.
Audience: The audience is respiratory care students who are studying for their NBRC credentialing exams. Dr. Scanlan (who sadly died before the publication of this edition) is legendary in the field of respiratory care. He has authored, coauthored, and contributed to numerous books on respiratory care. Likewise, Dr. Heuer and Mr. Rodriguez have also authored, coauthored, and contributed to a number of respiratory care books as well and are unquestioned experts in the field of respiratory care.
Features: After an introduction, the book delves right into the first section with 17 chapters that cover the content tested on the credentialing exams. Each chapter begins with a set of objectives and a brief "What to Expect," "What You Need to Know," "Top Test-Taking Tips," and post-test sections where readers are invited to go online, set up an account, and create a post-test out of 600 possible questions. Various tables and images appear throughout the book. The second section contains three chapters dedicated to the CSE exam, followed by a one-page appendix describing RTBoardReview.net. This website requires sign up, which I did not do. The guide ends with a thorough index.
Assessment: This revised guide is an excellent resource for students preparing for the NBRC credentialing exams and the content is on par with Respiratory Care Exam Review, 4th edition, Persing (Elsevier, 2016) and the credentialing exam preparation resources from Kettering National Seminars. It is a well-done book and worthy of a look!
