We're first introduced to Richard in the story about his twin brother, Max, in "His Lady Mistress." What a delight that Ms. Rolls decided to give him a story. His moody, yet complex character was apparent from his brief appearances in that novel. Here, he is reunited with Thea, a lady he knew as a child who is all grown up and full of secrets. During the course of the novel they grow to love and care for each other. But her secrets keep them apart. There is always one more secret they have to work through and Thea is quite certain that all he does is because he is so honorable. And he certainly is that. But he also loves her. And that is the loveliness of RIchard and his actions throughout the novel.

I really enjoyed "His Lady Mistress" so I was intrigued to see what happened to those characters. This was a really touching story overall even if I did guess the heroine's tragic secret. That did not impact my enjoyment of the story.

Make sure you read "His Lady Mistress" first. Just a wonderful loving story. I cried, laughed and got very angry, sometimes all in the same 5 minutes. Thanks Elizabeth Rolls for a great read.
