There's no doubt that the author knows his stuff about PCs. And after I took the Essentials exam, there is no doubt that this book is a total waste of money. The extensive trivial factoids he inundates the reader with -- and that he emphasizes is on the exam and must be memorized -- actually turns out to be the opposite. It's a total disconnect from reality. Instead, you'll find yourself wasting countless hours, days and months of prep time memorizing stuff that does not exist on the exam. I can't speak for the other books out there, but this one I emphatically state: DO NOT BUY.

This book was very helpful! I passed both exams using this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone studying for the exam, its short & sweet. Its easy to read and you can get through it quickly but it still covers all the material you need to know. Make sure you go over all the book questions and the CD questions, the CD questions cover some material that you will not find in your book but still need to know. I highly recommend this book.

I just took a class on this and the book did a much better job of preparing me than the class did. I felt confident going into both exams and passed them easily. I cannot comment on others books out there but this one is a must have,

Just what I wanted, prepped me for the exam very well. I've been working with computers for everal years now, and wanted to get the A+ cert so I could get more business. Used this book and pass 4 sure and passed the exams easily. Very smooth process, and easy reading...

I've been in the IT field for a couple years and decided (or it was decided for me) to get A+ certified. I've used Exam Cram books in the past for the Network+ and Server+ certifications. This book did not disappoint. For the most part (95% of the time), the chapters got right down to what is on the exxam. I didn't have time for a 1300 page monster manual, and didn't need it, passed the exams easily on the first shot. My favorite chapters are: Motherboards, Power, and Security. I picked up some good tips from those chapters especially. Some of the questions in the book were curiously similar to the real exam, and they were all helpful in understanding the concepts and types of questions a person might see.

Excellent book for technicians that are in the field and wish to obtain their A+ certification. Real world examples, lots of test questions and explanations. I used this and passed the exams easily.

I just got my copy of this and am very pleased. There is a good deal of information, and lots of questions and answers. David Prowse was the instructor in a class I took a few years ago, and I have been using his materials ever since then. He also answers questions at his website, a nice touch.
