Overview

Also known as COMPRAIL, this is the 8th International Conference on Computer Aided Design, Manufacture and Operations in the Railways and Other Advanced Mass Transit Systems. A wholesome mix of academic and business experts delivered some 110 papers dealing with train control, communications, the maglev, traffic simulation and control, power supply and traction drives, right-of-way, safety, scheduling, locating in-service trains. It is notable and regrettable—even contemptible—that hardly a single paper comes from the USA, a country that cannot build its own (somewhat) high speed train. It is no surprise that these papers demonstrate the expertise of those civilized places that recognize the value & virtue of trains: France, Japan, Italy, England, Korea. Co-edited by the prolific C.A. Brebbia, J. Allan, R.J. Hill, G. Sciutto, and S. Sone. There is no subject index. Distributed in North America by Computational Mechanics, Inc. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
