Overview

Confessions Of A Suicidal Policewoman by Thomas Fitzsimmons

Police officers Michael Beckett and Destiny Jones are two of the most compelling characters ever created by novelist Thomas Fitzsimmons. Now the author, who has been called "a worthy successor to Ed McBain" by New York Times bestselling author Steven Coonts, returns with a new tale about the wisecracking, deadly duo.
Roving the streets and bars of the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Beckett and Destiny are starting to come to terms with their true feelings for one another when their world suddenly shifts gears. An ex-cop recruits Beckett into his gang of "rockers"-a secret society of vigilante cops who protect businesses from shakedowns for a price.
A violent drug ring has taken control of an Upper East Side boutique hotel. The gang needs to be cleaned out and an old girlfriend of Beckett's, an amoral tart who happens to co-own the place, needs saving. This leads Beckett and Destiny into one of the deadliest, most tangled operations of their lives as he pursues the drug kingpin who killed his baby sister, and Destiny is forced to confront life as an invalid or a death with dignity by her own hand.

About the Author

Thomas Fitzsimmons didn’t need to go to the public library, interview participants, or hire a team of high-priced researchers to write gritty stories. For Fitzsimmons, a former New York City police officer, NBC television personality, Ford Model, and soap-opera/TV commercial actor, business associate and friend to some of the country's most rich and famous, it was as simple as recalling his life.

Fitzsimmons grew up in an Irish, Bronx, New York, neighborhood in a family of career cops. After high school, he joined the Navy and pulled sea duty aboard a guided missile cruiser on its way to Vietnam. The wartime experiences kindled a civic spirit in Fitzsimmons, who, upon being honorably discharged, joined the New York City Police Department. During a career that spanned 10 years in the precinct dramatized in Paul Newman's “Fort Apache-The Bronx,” Fitzsimmons notched numerous arrests collaring armed robbers, drug kingpins, and arsonists.

Fitzsimmons’s heroics were brought to the attention of talent scout Joey Hunter, who was the president of the Men’s Division for the Ford Modeling Agency. The Ford executive convinced Fitzsimmons that he had a future in the TV/modeling industries. The young cop soon filled his off-duty hours with modeling assignments, which eventually led to an audition with NBC-TV for a position as an on-camera personality and co-host for the magazine-format talk show, “Now.”

Success in the entertainment industry forced Fitzsimmons to choose between law enforcement or a glamorous, new lifestyle. The decision was tough, but Fitzsimmons never looked back. The actor/writer won the coveted TV assignment with NBC, and, although the show was eventually canceled, he soon became a top TV commercial actor and print model. As a rising star with the Ford Agency and the J. Michael Bloom Television Agency, he appeared in such soap operas as “One Life to Live” and “Texas” and served as a principal in more than 150 television commercials.

Fitzsimmons also drew from his law enforcement experiences with the NYPD, as well as numerous federal and international police contacts, to become a top security consultant to affluent clients nationwide. A recognized security expert, he has appeared on shows such as “Good Morning America,” “Geraldo Rivera” and “Montel Williams.”

Michael Beckett is a New York City cop who lost his younger sister to drugs a few years back. With revenge and justice in mind Beckett joins a crew of secret society vigilant cops and starts “rocking” for landlords to evict drug dealing gangs and squatters from their buildings. Beckett in need of money and too much spare time accepts an offer from one of his clients as an undercover on a security gig detail for one of the wealthiest couples in NYC. Between the security job, rocking and dealing with the most difficult wealthy couple ever, Michael Beckett begins to discover his true feelings for his old partner Destiny….who has a secret of her own. I have been dying to read this book since the author Thomas Fitzsimmons emailed me. I thoroughly enjoyed his first book and knew this would also be a fantastic read, and it was! Fitzsimmons far passed my expectations with this book. There were so many plot twists and turns it kept me very engaged and I must admit it kept me up several times late into the night for just one or two more chapters. There are so many aspects to this read between crumbling relationships, espionage, back stabbing, drugs, secret missions and medical complications that there seems to be action on every other page. I highly recommend this book and the author Thomas Fitzsimmons. Amazing read and fantastic author!

. This is the second book in the Michael Beckett series, I also reviewed the first book, Confessions of a Catholic Cop. Like his first, this story pulled me in from the very beginning. The author once again creates compelling characters, as well, he revisits those who already exist and leads readers deep into a story of love, greed and revenge. I found, Confessions of a Suicidal Policewoman, to be just as white-knuckled and gritty as the first but with a deep emotional tug. The book is a multi-dimensional page-turner that offers something for everyone. Like the first, this book does contain strong language and violence; however, it is necessary to relay an authentic story. In general, this book was a fascinating read and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a compelling mystery.

I read Confessions of a Catholic Cop by Thomas Fitzsimmons and I loved the book. So I was excited to read Confessions of a Suicidal Policewoman since it was the second book in the Michael Beckett series. This book basically picked up where the last book had left off. This time you get to know Destiny Jones who used to be Michael Beckett's partner. It went back and forth between Michael Beckett and Destiny Jones and it was great to get to know her. I was sad to see that the relationship between Michael Beckett and his girlfriend, Solana was fizzling, but it was great to see a romantic spark between him and Destiny. This book was even better than the first (and I loved the first book). You meet a lot of new characters in this book and some are from Beckett's past. Beckett and Destiny end up in the world of Rockers which is basically vigilante cops. This book definitely kept me on the edge of my seat with the dangers that these cops face along with all the twists and turns that this book is filled with. I also found myself fighting tears several times and I liked that this book had everything including romance, violence, tragedy, humor, and suspense. It's a great book and best of all it's a book that both men and women will enjoy. I highly recommend this book. **I received the book I reviewed free of charge in order to do an honest review. My thoughts are 100% my own and others may have different opinions.**

A fun read..only a real member of the NYPD could masterfully write a Police story that will leave you looking forward to reading more. I could not put it down.....

Wow! I loved this book! Beckett continues to grow from Fitzsimmons' last novel, as he fleshes out his character and his morality. How Fitzsimmons handled the confluence of the three lovers in his life was masterfully handled. I can offer nothing in the way of constructive criticism. I applaud Fitzsimmons' style and imagination. After two novels, Michael Beckett is a character I have come to care about in the same way I care about Dave Robicheaux, Doc Ford, Jack Reacher, and Bob Lee Swagger.

Fitzsimmons does it again! This is a great continuation of the Michael Beckett story line! I really enjoyed the plot, the action, and the drama! Fitzsimmons does a wonderful job of creating interesting characters that you become invested in! Destiny Jones is a great new addition! The ending was a blind side... I did not see that coming!! You could definitely read this book without reading the first book but I highly recommend reading both of them! Looking forward to more "Confessions" in the future!!

I know this is fiction but what I loved about reading this is that it is written by a guy who has been there, who is writing from experience and who is going to be a reliable source of what really happens to New York cops. I loved this "insider's view". Fitzsimmons' style is tight, straight forward, and candid. I love that he is a great storyteller, and Confessions of a Suicidal Policewoman is a great story--the most important element in any work of fiction. It was a page turner that kept me from doing other things while I was reading it. Although I love shows like CSI, one of the things I liked about this book (and the one before it, Confessions of a Catholic Cop) is that it is about cops out in the field, facing criminals, the public and other cops, and using their head to figure out motives and connections, not focusing on the scientific side of catching criminals. This is a perfect book for the airplane, beach, or sitting in your car waiting for your kids at the school gates (which is where I read a lot of it).

ANOTHER MICHAEL BECKETT THAT YOU WON'T WANT TO PUT DOWN. GREAT STORY WITH WHAT SEEMS LIKE REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES. LOVE MICHAEL AND DESTINY TOGETHER. WONDERFUL (SORT OF SURPRISING ENDING).A GREAT FOLLOW-UP TO PREVIOUS MICHAEL BECKETT "CONFESSIONS OF A CATHOLIC COP" A MUST READ ALSO. TF'S BOOK "ROCKERS" IS GREAT ALSO WITH A SERIES OF SHORTER STORIES SIMILAR TO THESE TWO BOOKS. CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE. DON'T STOP HERE, THOMAS..............

My business partner ordered this book at a Barnes & Noble out in San Diego and passed it on to me. I usually read non-fiction, and one of the reasons I liked this book so much is that it read like non-fiction. The characters are so well drawn, the dialogue so real that I came away thinking I'd read a memoir. It all made sense to me when I read about the author and realized he was a New York City cop. I recommend this book to anyone who like a good adventure story.

Thomas Fitzsimmons has repeated the success of his first novel, "Confessions of a Catholic Cop," with a gripping story of love, loyalty and friendship without conditions. Mr. Fitzsimmons develops his characters and dialogue so well that, you'll feel as though your sitting on a stool with them at their favorite watering-hole. I hope to see more from this author.

I confess I haven't read a more exciting thriller in a long time, if ever. The characters are very well drawn, especially Destiny Jones. Fitzsimmons must have known her in real life, because he has captured every subtle nuance of a New York working policewoman. She's wise to every little thing going on around her, while at the same time, funny and charming. She jumps right off the page, and then grows on you with depth as the story moves along. The author illustrates the East Side of Manhattan lifestyle with great accuracy and detail as the tension and excitement grows page by page. Some might describe this book as a thriller but I'd call it a love story. I am looking forward to Mr. Fitzsimmon's next story about the simmering, exciting Woody Allen Upper East Side of New York. "Confessions of a Suicidal Policewoman" is an excellent follow up to Fitzsimmons's "Confessions of a Catholic Cop." I couldn't put "Confessions of a Catholic Cop" down, and "Confessions of a Suicidal Policewoman" continued the trend! The author once again writes compelling characters who lead readers deep into a story of love, greed and revenge. The book is a multi-dimensional page-turner that offers something for everyone. I would highly recommend "Confessions of a Suicidal Policewoman" to all readers who loved book one, or who are looking for a fast-paced and entertaining thriller. Fitzsimmons definitely beats the sophomore slump with this one! I am eagerly awaiting book #3!
