In book one the reader can sense the impending fear and the need ro reach the safe place. In book two the characters lose the driving need to stay safe to cabin fever. Toward the end of book two the story becomes more important than the characters and takeover the book, There is no hook to keep the reader engrossed in the lives of Meyer's family, The story leaves the reader feeling much less intimate with them as people. The minor charaters add little to advance the story, especially Raj. Cameron has the opportunity make a good protaganist but falls completely short and does little more than act as a guide He could add a significant sub-plot if more motivation was given to his desperation to contact Meyer. The twist and irony of a strong emotional and physical relationship with Piper would help keep the actors intriguing. The "dreams", both from suppostion and drugged induction is belabored The main character isn't even present other than somewhat vaguely omnipresent in pseudo-psychic rabbling that doesn't follow aclear mysterious contact. Raj could be strengthed to add a signicant complexity to Lila's angst over the baby and her dread of doctorless unattended birth. Chris isn't working as a counter figure to Raj. Neither man has any substance. Raj serves NO purpose Chris is just a randy dude who does NOT play any roll beyond a casual sex partner. He and Raj should be at much bigger odds with each other thereby increasing the tension in the bunker. There is no strong interaction between Heather and Piper. Confrontation between the two women wiuld be much more human and create a bigger dilemna with Meyer in book One and continue in book two, especially in the bunker's tight quarters. What is Heather's role at all? In summary the story is strong but the characters are very weak and superficial. Book three shows no sign of rising to a major climax. Rather it casts doubt to the reader that the story is continuing as anything more than a grand view of storyline with no foundation of humans or aliens.

A good followup to Invasion, Contact takes place 3 months later and follows Meyer's family as they try to live without going crazy inside of the bunker, and the crowds of people attracted to Meyer's house because he was abducted there in the hopes that they might be abducted too. (Lots of hippies.) Not is all sunshine and rainbows, though, as some of the crowd have discovered the bunker, and are trying to break in... I enjoyed the new characters and relationships introduced in this book, and like how nobody is safe from danger. That said, this book is not quite as "page-turney" as the first book, owing in large part to a lot of the action taking place in a very confined space. There is a bit of travel as a few of the main characters try to find a secret research base in Utah and to travel there from Meyer's bunker without getting killed, but it wasn't just one life-threatening event after another as folks tried to cross the country from NY to CO like the first book. Meyer himself plays a very small role in this book, although given how the book ends I expect that he will play a much larger role in the third book. While I didn't tear through this one nearly as fast as I did the first book, I am still eagerly awaiting the the next book.

I've loved both of these books, and can't wait to read the next one. You can really feel the story rolling to a boil. And I love the characters. Well, I don't love all the characters, but I do love their development. Best of all, I love how much the story trusts the reader and is building the foundation for an epic saga. Well done. I can't wait to read what's next!

Finally, an alien invasion book that's based on real theory rather than some "men in black" crap! The authors actually did their research, which is so, SO rare in this usually-poorly-done genre.  I'm DYING to read the third book, after seeing what's coming as laid out in this one!

Thrilling edge of my seat read!

Eliminate the 50% rambling daytime soap opera and this could have been a great read. Please tell me at least one of you "guys" is really female.

GREAT book & series! I absolutely LOVED them all! If you're a sci-fi fan, you have to read this series - you won't be disappointed!

Truant and Platt are a great writing team. This second installment of the Invasion series is just as good as the first. The Dempsey family, minus Meyer, is learning how to survive in the underground bunker. They try to stay hidden from the horde of people camping out in the house and surrounding land. When a group of men break into the bunker, should the family trust them? Where is Meyer? What do the aliens want? What are the men who came into the bunker really up to? These are just a few questions that I need to have answered. I really like this series. The characters are great. The plot is well thought out and interesting. I am looking forward to book 3 - Colonization.

Another win for Platt and Truant! The second book kept me interested just as the first one did and I'm for certain going to be purchasing the third book soon! The characters continue to develop as well as the relationship between them all. I've found some of my favs and definitely found the ones I'm waiting to "get what's coming to them." I'm really curious to find more clues/answers to the mystery behind the invaders and what they have in store for the characters as well as humanity.

Not as exciting as Invasion but still a good book. Keeps you wondering who (among the characters) has figured out what is going on or if anyone knows what is the correct thing to do. Will book 3.

Excellent read. The whole series is exciting, well written, and creative. It's not your same old, same old sci-fi. Start with book one and read the whole series.

I read the first book in this series very quickly, i couldn't put it down. While the first book was more action and tension the second book seemed a little of a letdown. While it is easy to read the story doesn't really go anywhere. It took 300 pages to get to anything exciting. The first book made me like the characters but this one did little to advance them or to flesh them out. The last couple of chapters could probably be read straight from the end if the first book. I will probably get the next one simply because I want to know what happens more than i really care about the characters. Maybe book 3 willbe more like the first.

Good continuation of the story line from Invasion, the first book. I think it really feeds into the real-world fear we have of aliens (immigrants) in our midst. People will go to great lengths to feel safe and secure, including burying themselves in a bunker - it is like putting yourself in jail. It is a good allegory of the author's conception of what life is all about. Too bad they are rather pessimistic and show humanity degenerating to the lowest common denominator of greed and power. It still is a great story and I can't wait for the aliens to show themselves. They hold the promise of saving mankind from itself, or not.

Plot moves forward at a good pace, relatable characters that are well developed, novel situations spiced with interesting facts. enjoying the series very much so far.

Totally was unsure of this story. But, I could not put it down. Loved it. (Even though this usually is my genre of choice). Of course, I can't wait to read the next in the series.

The plot was good, but much of the story was slow. Parts were exciting but many of the story lines did not go anywhere. I did enjoy the book and will definitely will read the next.

Great second book in the series. Full of action and suspense. The characters have changed from the first, but that's good because they've developed. Still no aliens in this one, but that's okay because that's where the suspense comes in. What do the aliens want and when will they show up. Can't wait to read the third.

These guys got me hook, line & sinker! Cant wait for the next one. These books fall into that weird in between because they are not the best of the genre, not the most original in their premise nor brilliant in their execution, but very fun and sticking in my head.
