Convenient Lies by Robin Patchen

"Of course, no matter where in the world she was, she could never have stayed hidden, not as long as he was willing to kill innocent people until he found her. The question was, had he stopped killing people, or was she next on his list?"

--Robin Patchen, award winning author of Finding Amanda and Twisted Lies.

The ramifications of past decisions and the lenses through which we see the world greatly impact the decisions we make today, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. Rae’s past, childhood events, rash decisions all led her to a place of danger and betrayal. Now she must run to try to keep her baby safe no matter the cost to herself. Through however a circuitous route, the first true stop must be Rae’s hometown. Unexpected complications keep her there longer than expected, to even more unexpected consequences. Detective Brady Thomas, Rae’s childhood best friend and teenage love, has returned to their hometown and hopes to be next-in-line for the position of Chief of Police. After many failed relationships, Brady’s love for Rae still resides deep in his heart. When he responds to a prowler call at her grandmother’s home, Brady comes face to face with the woman he can’t forget. With his military and police training and experience, Brady feels qualified to protect Rae and her child, but Rae trusts no one, nor does she want to endanger the man she has never forgotten. Convenient Lies is full of adventure, heroism, and selflessness. The dialogue is very well written, and the author paints mental pictures of the story’s settings with embedded information, not long descriptions, thus keeping the story moving at a fast pace. This is one of those reads that would play well as a movie. The story will appeal to both men and women. I thank Robin Patchen for providing me with a copy of Convenient Lies in exchange for an honest review, and look forward to reading book two in this Hidden Truth series, Twisted Lies. I greatly enjoyed this first book.

This story has so many liars and lies being told all over the place it is absolutely crazy but dang it it works. How bizarre is that. This author has each character so wrapped in the lies of their own making be it for protection against their past or hiding from their present. As the story and all the pieces start to click together the truth comes out and lies are what is needed to make it work. It's not just about the individuals this is about every little thing and how the chips must fall. It's about betrayal from those you love and trust and regret that you don't have the power or control or the ability to choose. It's an exciting action packed read. I love strong female characters that don't whine and cry their way thru emotional or scary times but that will step up to the plate with their big girl panties on and make it happen. I really need to read more because this series is starting off with a bang.

Reagan is married with the wrong man, and now she has to run to save her and her son. When she comes back to her hometown to join her grandmother, she mets Brady, her best friend forever and one of the reason she left Nutfield all those years ago and never came back. But now she has to face a very difficult situation with her friends’s help. You can’t put down the book, a rollercoaster of emotions and a lot of action.

The female protagonist, Reagan, and the male protagonist, Brady, were both strong characters who will do anything to protect Rea's baby. It was an interesting storyline involving terrorists and selling arms but, for some reason, I had trouble getting into the story. The ending was a nice surprise. I received a complimentary e-book of Convenient Lies from the author. This is my honest opinion.

This is a scary scenario and I loved the book. I wasn't sure how the author was going to wrap it up and there is a surprise to how it ends. I give my approval. So if you suspense, drama and sudden twists and their are several of them, you are going to enjoy this book.

What do you get when you cross a desperate lady running for her life and a detective who still carries a flame for her? You get suspense, intrigue, romance, drama, and an edge of your seat thriller. In this story you met Rae who decides to go on the run with her newborn son once she discovers she has married a terrorist. But what do you need to live life on the run - money. So her journey begins in her hometown where she hopes to find some gold coins her father had hidden years ago to fund her life on the run. While there, she crosses paths with an old beau Brady who is a police detective. Brady can tell something is going on with Rae but she refuses to tell him anything as she is worried for his life. Rae knows her husband will stop at nothing to find her and their son. So Rae is forced to choice between confiding in Brady and protecting him. This is just when the drama heats up as several bombings make it clear to Rae that her husband is desperate to find them and is closing in. But Brady wouldn't just leave well enough alone, he keeps drilling her for information and as they spend more and more time together, the old flames of romance begin to bloom once again. But can their be any future for them with Rae on the run from her husband. Can Brady come up with a plan to help Rae in time. How many lives will be lost in the process? Is there any hope in this hopeless situation? Highly recommend this suspenseful drama. Get a copy and prepare to be drawn into Rae and Brady's lives and to not want to put the book down. And I have to say that the ending will surprise you and no I am not going to give you any clues.

This is the first book by Robin Patchen that I have read. I was quite pleased for the most part with the story. The title seems quite appropriate for the story. A woman who has changed her identity to escape the infamy of a childhood deed has married a man who has kept his real identity hidden from her. He is the son of a major international crime boss. Their reasons are different but both are living a lie. Are there varying degrees of lies? Are the lies of one any worse than the lies of the other? Are their lies going to bring harm to anyone? She is an investigative journalist and learns who he really is. Can she get away from him and protect their newborn son from his criminal father? Well, grab the book and read along to see all the excitement as they play hide and seek all over the world. The book is loaded with suspense, action, and some romance. And the lies continue. You are probably familiar with some of the old sayings about one lie leads to another and so on. The more lies you tell, the easier it is to keep lying. The big question is whether the lies will ever end. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review.

Convenient Lies by Robin Patchen Hidden Truth Series Book One Rachel Adams may not have been completely honest with her husband when they married—but he definitely had not been honest with her. Rae had changed her name when she left her hometown of Nutfield, New Hampshire and went to college—leaving a past behind her. Now, truths have come to light and she needs to get away and start over...again. Brady Thomas has returned home to Nutfield. He's been through some tough times, but survived. What he's not sure he can survive is having Rae back home. Especially since she's just planning on leaving again—like she had done twelve years ago. A great story. This is told from three separate point of views. The author has done an excellent job of keeping the story moving and building emotions and letting the reader see the different sides of the characters. It's hard to describe the uniqueness of it without spoilers. **Mild language
