I've made a number of these recipes (such as Olive Tapanade, Palm Beach Brownies, Chocolate Espresso Truffles) and they are always a hit with guests. The instructions are clear, leaving little to chance. Especially useful in this book are the "Party Planners" at the beginning of each section, which provide a preparation strategy in the form of a calendar of activities leading up to your event (example: "One day in advance - Make toast and vegetable mix for Bruschetta"). Even if you have a shelf full of cookbooks, this is the one you'll turn to again and again when you're throwing a party.

I don't do big parties, but this cookbook makes planning even a small dinner party a breeze. It's well laid out, very helpful, extremely well written, and fun. The recipes are clear and easy to follow - and they provide great inspiration. And if you don't want to do a whole big meal, just pick out a recipe you like and take it from there. Makes a great gift either for people who already like to cook, or those who want to learn.
