Gr 9 Up -Although this film offers a great deal of information about wireless communication systems, the Internet, and social networking, it has some major shortcomings. Produced in Australia, it discusses jumbuck.com, a vast social networking system that is generally unknown to North Americans. Also, it will take time for American listeners to become familiar with the Australian accent and the minimizing of many words. While the program presents information about the various facets of modern communications, and does an excellent job of explaining the "digital divide," it falls short on analyzing some important topics, such as copyright questions regarding downloading music and the negatives of Web sites such as Wikipedia. It asks the question, "How can viewers make attempts to check the accuracy of information with which theya're presented?," but doesna't provide any answers.-Barb Hartings, Lebanon High School, OH Copyright 2008 Reed Business Information.
