I absolutely inhaled this book, reading it in just two sittings (approximately 24 hours)! While I was initially drawn to the book for the racy, albeit gorgeous, cover, I was instantly impressed by Haimowitz's poignant, poetic, and highly addictive writing. Ayden and Freyrik are so raw, so unabashedly different, and strong-willed, that I found myself drawn into this story within a couple of pages. I was fascinated by the way in which the men interacted, coupled with the incredibly rich (and marred) history of their waring nations (Evelyn vs. Human, respectively). Not merely a story of lust turned to reality (as the cover might imply), Rachel Haimowitz explores the depths, and power, of history, racism, war, slavery, and nature. Her story weaves a tale that is incredibly captivating, highlighting the ability of love to flourish in the most surprising of places. One of my favorite lines reads, "If you wedge Ayden [between two tall cliffs], he would spend the next thousand years carving a stairway with his blade, one grain of stone at a time, until he could call himself free." I would recommend this book to anyone with a taste for fantasy, war stories, Elven history, and the power of love to prevail, or crush, two men born to very different backgrounds and circumstances. COUNTERPOINT is well worth the read, though not for the slight of heart reader, or anyone uncomfortable with male intimacy and war. My only gripe is having to wait until the fall of 2011 for the next book!

I.Loved.This.Book. What an incredibly awesome read this one was. The world building, the characters, the plot. all of it. The author did an amazing job with this book. Incredibly well written, it had me all over the emotional scale. Vivid descriptions that had me pulled into the story, seeing and feeling what the characters were experiencing as they related to the world around them as well as interacting with each other. The world the she created was amazing. Not at all your typical elfin fantasy type world, which sadly I admit, I was expecting. This was a fantasy world with elves and humans that had a strong historical feel to it. Back to the days of old with castles and kings, yet entwined with magic, elfin music and song. It has love, passion, violence, bloodshed. it has it all. I found it an amazing combination that had me completely fascinated and totally enthralled. The characters were extraordinary. The two main characters Freyrik and Ayden, I just fell in love with. Prince Freyrik, strong, noble, patient, compassionate. Ayden, prideful, loyal, strong, stubborn, snarky, absolutely filled with attitude. He had me laughing with his stubbornness and his snarky attitude on many occasions. I loved them both, but it's Ayden I absolutely fell in love with. I completely adore him. This book is not your average hot, steamy romance novel. It's not a book of page after page of quick, meaningless sex; it's a slow build in this one as the main characters banter back and forth, learn to trust to each other, and form their relationship. I don't always like having to wait for the hot and heavy, with this book however it was fine with me, I found the book is fast paced enough and definitely interesting enough to be able to pull it off. Once they get there. beautifully amazing. I have to say, the end of the book is a cliffhanger and I was a bit hesitant to read it for that reason. But this is done in such a way that I didn't feel left completely dangling in mid air, which just drives me crazy. I would highly recommend this one to any lover of the M/M genre. You won't be disappointed. And yes, I will definitely be first in line for the sequel.

Counterpoint is a well written book and in my opinion lighter than the other books by the author. The characters are well developed and their emotions are fairly transparent to the readers. At the beginning of the story, Ayden is captured after trying to save his sister. Ayden is an elf and elves and humans do not get along very well. Freyrík is the Prince Regent and the first moment he sees Ayden he is charmed by him. After a disastrous start, Freyrík tries to seduce Ayden but find resistance in each attempt. I liked that in the book, the fact that their relationship was not instantaneous as in other books, that Freyrík had to have persistence and work to Auden's take a chance on him. I wait anxiously for the sequel.
