Addiction. Most of us know of someone who has struggled with addiction, but many don't truly understand the struggles a family endures when they lose a loved one to this nightmare. Counting Spoons offers an unvarnished look at the very personal and heartbreaking 5-year journey this family endured and provides a message of hope through love, faith, and recovery.Rosemary McFadden, MS, LMFT, Behavioral Health Director
A compelling, passionate, heartfelt journey of a mother's love and determination in fighting for the life of her son. The irony of this story is it's reflective of the lives of so many, and yet, the beauty is the saving grace through Jesus Christ. There's no sin, bad habit, or addiction Jesus can't deliver us from. Counting Spoons demonstrates the perseverance of a mother in pursuit to save the life of her child and finding Jesus, the life giver. I highly recommend this book. You will be encouraged, blessed, and reminded "nothing is too hard for God".

It takes courage to share a story like this, and both Kathryn and her son, Justin, have shown exceptional bravery. Kathryn has the unique ability to saturate her words with emotion - fear, confusion, anger, desperation. Her words resonate with me, as they will with other mothers (fathers, sisters, brothers) who have endured the devastation of a son's (daughter's, husband's) drug or alcohol addiction. But Kathryn wants her readers to know there is hope. Hope because we are all God's children, and His grace, love, and miraculous mercy are there for each and every one of us.
