Countrywoman's Year based on 0 ratings. 1 reviews.
Some time ago, I read and remember finding useful information in Rosemary Verey's [The Garden in Winter]. I purchased [A Countrywoman's Year] in hopes of finding more of the same. This volume, however, disappointed. It is a short collection of paragraphs, perhaps diary entries, recounting life at her Gloucestershire home. Although dated 1989, most of the writing seems to have been compiled from the 1970s and includes notes on weather, calendar lore, garden pests and the continued development of the rural English countryside. No particular themes emerged from the collection, nor is there any specific gardening advice. The author's rambling ruminations were a quick, but largely unsatisfying, read.
