Yippe ti-yi-yo little dogies that's the song the cowpokes croon Kathi Appelt gently calls forth the sounds and images of the prairie in this lyrical evocation of nighttime on the range. From the whippoorwill call to the coyote's yip yip yaroo, every young cowpoke from San Antone to Manhattan will want to call this prairie home. Barry Root illustrates with a warmth that begins with the sun's last slide down the mountainside and radiates through every page.

About the Author
Kathi Appelt, at the age of seven, stumbled and fell into an alligator pit in San Antonio, Texas, a place where there should be no alligators or alligator pits. Fortunately she was a lot bigger than the alligator, who was more scared of her than she was of it!
