Louise M. Gouge is one of my very favorite authors, so I was delighted to receive this book to read & review. I knew her story wouldn’t disappoint…and it didn’t. Gouge is a master of dialogue, so there’s great interaction between the unlikely heroine, tomboy Grace Eberly (also a gun-tottin’ deputy) and the sought-after hero, Reverend Micah Thomas. Good friends, they are so busy protecting one another from aggressive women and pushy suitors, one wonders if they will ever realize their true matches are nearer than they think! This is my first Love Inspired Historical and I enjoyed it very much. Especially fun to read at Christmastime, but one would relish this read any time of year. Also a treat to my inner cowgirl, who loved the talk of Grace riding her rounds to check on the community amid concerns of outlaws, then teaching the Rev to shoot. It’s good fun to watch her worry about her reputation at spending time alone with him, while also noting no one seems to consider her a lady in her jeans & badge anyway, so maybe her reputation is safe. Is that a plus or a minus? Gouge paints a vivid picture of Esperanza, Colorado, an authentic, though fictive, old west town. Amid a setting of good folks and bustling businesses, a gang threatens to harm the citizens. Armed with a newly deputized posse and hefty doses of prayer, Grace and the Reverend seem a good team to keep the peace. Will they become a team in life as well as a team for the law? You’ll enjoy the journey as you find out.
