About the Author

Eliza Crewe always thought she'd be a lawyer, and even went so far as to complete law school. But as they say, you are what you eat, and considering the number of books Eliza has devoured since childhood, it was inevitable she'd end up in the literary world. She abandoned the lawyer-plan to instead become a librarian and now a writer.

While she's been filling notebooks with random scenes for years, Eliza didn't seriously commit to writing an entire novel until the spring of 2011, when she and her husband bought a house. With that house came a half-hour commute, during which Eliza decided she needed something to think about other than her road-rage. Is it any surprise she wrote a book about a blood-thirsty, people-eating monster?

Eliza has lived in Illinois, Edinburgh, and Las Vegas, and now lives in North Carolina with her husband, her hens, her angry, talking, stuffed dwarf giraffe, and a sweet, mute, pantomiming bear. She likes to cook, partially-complete craft projects, free-range her hens, and take long walks. Cracked is her first novel. The author lives in North Carolina.

The beginning was a little chaotic and all over the place.  That changed with the arrival of the young Crusaders and the energetic bundle of literary creativity became focused. Meda uses the Crusaders to wriggle her way into their compound in an attempt to discover more about her powers and true heritage. Evil side vs good side, hunger vs starving and the choice between friendship or succumbing to genetics, so it is no wonder Meda finds it hard to befriend anyone. Whilst Meda is interacting with various characters the reader is treated to an inner dialogue going on simultaneously in her head. A bit like a serial killer debating whether or not to kill, maim disfigure or just nibble on people. Although the beginning was a tad gory and bloodthirsty the story soon slips into a comfortable YA pattern. The characters gel well with each other. A blossoming quirky friendship and a complicated love story add to the charm of this slightly dark story. The ending promises to make the next book in the series quite interesting. One decision might just have decided her fate and not in a good way. Certainly something to look forward to.   I received a copy of this book via NetGalley.

As soon as I read the description for this book, I knew I was going to love it. A girl that eats people's souls? Creepy and very strange (which I love!). And this soul-eating girl only kills bad people who have hurt others. Interesting. Meda has lived in solitude since the death of her mother, always on the move and never staying in one place for too long. While taking out a bad guy, Meda is suddenly introduced to three men in black suits - who are just like her. Meda always thought she was special - the only one who can eat souls. Now it seems that she's not alone and she can finally get some answers about herself. Before Meda can talk to these guys, they try to kill her - for no reason. Enter in a trio of teens who call themselves Crusaders - descendants of the Knights Templar whose sole purpose is to fight demons. Which is apparently what Meda is - at least partially. These kids seem to know about her kind, so Meda decides to follow them back to their school, playing the weak human who was attacked by demons, in order to learn more about herself, her heritage, and others like her. Little did she know that once at the school, she would learn much more than she ever thought possible - about her mother's secret past, her true nature, and her destiny. This book was phenomenal! It went far above and beyond any hopes or expectations I had for it. I loved every single part of it - from the characters to the dialogue and the history of both groups and everything else. It all fit together so well that I was immediately immersed in Meda's world alongside her. Meda was a truly fascinating and multi-layered main character. You wouldn't think that a chick who eats people's souls would make a good lead character, but Meda is the exception. She's smart, witty, and determined to figure out who and what she really is. The part I loved most about Meda was her attitude. She was completely snarky and sarcastic throughout the entire book. The story is told from her point of view, so the reader is inside her head the entire time. She is ridiculously funny in a sarcastic way. I found myself snickering right along with her during the book. There's just something about her attitude and her snarky dialogue that I loved. On top of Meda's character, the other characters are well written too - especially those of the three Crusaders that Meda gets to know. They each have a unique personality with flaws and strengths, which made them accessible and realistic to me. The plot was fast paced and there was so much going on during the book, but I never felt overwhelmed or confused. I loved learning everything I could about Meda, the demons, the Crusaders, all of their histories - basically anything that was important in the book I wanted to know all about! I'm really hoping that we'll get to learn even more in the following book. Although this is a YA fantasy/paranormal book, it weaves in several other genres like action, romance and adventure to make a completely original book unlike anything else out there that I've read. I'm already dying to read the next book in the series, which is the only bad thing I have to say about it - that we have to wait so long!! Very highly recommended for fans of YA fantasy and paranormal novels. Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a really good book! I did a google search for books similar to Red Rising (a new book by Pierce Brown), and this is what popped up. It had really good reviews on GoodReads so I thought what the heck. I love how candid the characters are in their roles. They were deeply developed for what I normally find. I found myself wondering what was happening in the book when I was unable to read it. don't let the soul eater thing be a turn off. At first I thought meh, but then I started reading. What an unknown gem! Must read. Really good. Not like anything I have read prior to this. And I am almost finished with book two! I really hope that isn't all!

I loved this book! It had a lot of dry, sarcastic humor that I found very refreashing. This book could have been very dark considering the main character is a half demon, but I found it to be very light and amusing with a hint of something very serious underneath. I loved how the main character and point of view was of the"bad guy" instead of the typical good hearted, saintly hero chasing after the villain. If anyone has ever watched the TV show Dexter, this book reminds me a lot of it. Even though the main character is this devious, monster; you can't help but fall in love with her anyway. I would have liked the main character to have a little more romance in the book, but I was also kind of happy that it didn't. I am glad the book focaused on her and not some boy she would have been chasing after. Can't wait for the next book!

Not your typical paranormal! I found this book to be a refreshing change and very well written. You'll enjoy the main character's search for answers to who she is while knowing it's not all nice and pretty. Makes me want to read the next in series!

I really liked this book. Meda is FLAWED, but her internal monologue had me laughing out-loud!! She is quick witted, and very snarky, and not the typical heroine. If you want a quick read, good twists, and a good laugh read this book!

This book was such a fun read! I really liked the main character (who doesn't love a character with morality issues?!). And biker crusaders living in a trailer park?! Very entertaining, I can't wait for the second book .
