Crashers: A Tale of Cappers and Hammers

Crashers: A Tale of Cappers and Hammers

by Lindy S. Hudis

Fraudulent car accidents is a multi-million dollar racket, involving unscrupulous medical providers, personal injury attorneys, and the cooperating passengers involved in the accidents—and who also receive a portion of the illegal proceeds. Such is the fate of newly engaged, Nathan and Shari, whose joy is tempered by the dark cloud of mounting debt. A chance encounter with a stranger in whom Shari confides her troubles proves fortuitous: he tells her of a get-rich-quick scheme that will put her and her fiancé on easy street. Seduced by the chance to move from hard times to good times in no time, Shari finds herself acting as a “stuffed passenger”—the “victim” in a staged auto accident. The act goes according to plan and Shari gets her payday, but getting out and breaking free of the insurance fraud underworld will take nothing short of a miracle. A modern day cautionary tale, Crashers is a true-to-life novel that uncovers how the innocent get lured into the scheme of “cappers” and “hammers.” A riveting story of love and desperation, greed and redemption.

I was surprised at how quickly my attention was caught by Crashers by Lindy S. Hudis. First let me tell you how shocked I was/am at the fact that there is such a thing as vehicular accident fraud! I really had no idea, so not only did I learn something new, but the fictionalized story was very captivating.Overall, it is a good wake-up call to remind us that taking the easy way out of a situation is not always the right choice, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is, and there are situations that can get much worse before they get better!Such is the case for Shari and Nathan, who are engaged, and wanting to get out of debt. When approached with a get-rich-quick scheme that seems easy, they find themselves in deeper than they want to be. I loved the insight into the investigative side of the fraud as well, and thought Detective Louise Holley was wonderful. This was a pretty quick read because it was hard to put down, and I constantly struggled NOT to skim ahead to see how things turned out. Pick up a copy of Crashers and I can just about promise you will have a non-stop page turner in your hands, I enjoyed it and I'm glad I stepped away from my normal genres to give this one a try. You'll learn a few things, you'll ask yourself if you could ever find yourself (or your loved-ones) in a similar situation, you'll hold your breath through some scenes, and you'll get a shocking twist in the story near the end. I'll add one last note that this is a great book, but is probably best for adults due to mild language.

I can just about assure you that you will never read another book quite like this one. I have only heard about car scams that are the central focus of this book, but I now have a much better idea of what these people do. And it is absolutely despicable! To see what simple lying could lead to was quite unnerving to me. The story of the book was extremely fast-paced, and the author put in some fantastic twists and turns that will definitely keep you guessing. While the book does not have the kind of ending you may want, at least there is a conclusion where justice is served--mostly. It was quite realistic and also somewhat surprising. My struggle with the book was the profanity. I am not a prude, but I do grow tired of unnecessary profanity that appears on almost every page of the book. I am sure that is part of the realism in the book, but I do not feel that it is necessary to drop these words so often. At least there were no bedroom scenes. The violence in the book is not descriptive, but there are a few scenes/lines that stick with me even as I am writing this review. I sometimes forget how depraved humanity can be. The subject matter of this book is definitely worth the read, but only you can weigh if the language of the book will be a problem. I think the author has brought something to light within today's society of which most of us never think or even know about. I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

"Crashers" is a fast, exciting, nail biting read that will hook you from the first page. Lindy pens her characters interesting, strong and well developed in this action packed thriller. While there is some mild language, this book is a must read for everyone who loves the thrill and mystery genre.

I'm gonna be honest, at first I didn't think I would be really interested in a book based on cars and crime, but once I opened that book up I didn't put it down till my husband made me. LOL I'm more of a sci-fi/horror book reader. But I was instantly taken by the book and sucked in. I couldn't put it down. I must have read over half the book in my first sitting of reading it. And after discussing the book with my husband I couldn't believe that real things like what happens in this book actually happen out there in our little world. This book is so enthralling, it's sucks you right in. I felt what the main characters felt. I laughed with they did. I cried when they did. I felt anger like they did. This book is a must have in my library. And I recommend it to anyone and everyone! The author writes perfectly from the beginning and all the way to the end. A FIVE Star Book in my opinion!

Talk about a suspense novel! Crashers kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire book! The two main characters, Shari and Nathan, are sympathetic and realistic, especially as we see them working hard in their lives before everything begins to spiral downward. However, people can do things under stress that they didn't know they were capable of. The writing was riveting and realistic, owing, of course, to a very compelling topic. Some of the scenes in the book were shocking and some very moving. It's incredible to think that there are actually people out there every day who are in the business of car crash insurance fraud. Getting a glimpse into that world was amazingly fascinating, and at times, disturbing. (As it should be.) At times I felt like a bit of innuendo was thrown in just because that kind of thing "sells", but mostly this was kept to a minimum. (Nothing is explicit.) The language in the book got pretty colorful, which made me a tad uncomfortable. However, because of the settings in the book, I'm sure that the language was accurate. Overall I recommend the Crashers Book. I give the writing a 4/5, the characters 4/5, and the story line a 5/5.

Wow! what an interesting book!. I cannot believe I read this whole book in 1 day!. It was so interesting and I just couldn't stop reading, the story just got better and better. This book is about love and fraud. I bet there are a lot of smiler cases like this happen in our world. Just imagine how people can do anything to hurt an innocent person so they could get rich by insurance fraud. Shari and Nathan are interesting characters in this book. At the end I'm glad about how Nathan handled his relationship with Shari.

Lindy S.Hudis does a good job showing you the inner circle of an insurance fraud scam all the way to the top. When I first began Crashers I was not sure where it would take me. I have never pictured someone staging an accident just to get the money although I know that it happens. Hudis takes an ordinary couple and shows how one bad day can destroy a life. Shari and Nathan are a newly engaged normal couple like so many today living pay check to pay check. When both suddenly lose their jobs and then Shari wrecks her car and is sued the couple find themselves in financial despair. It's a great look into how the every day person can get pulled into a life of crime. Desperation and lack of money can make us all do crazy things. I received this book to review through Moms With Voices Media, all the opinions above are 100% my own.

I know people will go to great lengths to make money, but can you imagine going as far as staging accidents to get insurance companies to pay... I guess I never thought about it but there is such a thing as accident insurance fraud. That is what Crashers by Lindy S.Hudis is about. A story that is shocking and hard to believe that there are people out there who recruit those down on their luck to work for them to stage car accidents so they can pay their bills. That is exactly what happens to Shari and Nathan, a young couple with all their dreams ahead of them until fate intervenes and they both find themselves without jobs. There are bills to pay and no money so when Shari meets a man who promises to solve that problem for them, they jump at the chance. Although Nathan is very reluctant to embark on this criminal activity, he goes along with it because he loves Shari, thus begins their adventure. This is a book that caught me as soon as I started to read and I enjoyed the book very much. It certainly opened up my eyes, I can see how easy a person can become a victim of this type of fraud. If you don't have a good lawyer, you can lose everything to an accident of this type, and the ending totally surprised me. I received a copy of this book for review and was not monetarily compensated for my review.

I don't know where to begin without giving away too much of the book! I guess the best place to start is by saying that this book is GREAT. It's about car accident fraud – which is crazy to even think that it happens as frequently as it does. It's crazy – this book had me hooked and wanting more! I couldn't put it down – I'm kind of sad I read it in one day. The characters are realistic and it's really well written – I love the author's style of writing. Great suspense/thriller – I highly recommend it!

I found this book difficult to read because I actually know a couple people who were victims of this type of crime, so just having someone was contemplating this kind of upset me a little at first. It probably didn’t help that book started slow. Once the story picked up, those little uncomfortable thoughts vanished as the story wrapped me in and tantalized me. I give this story 4.5 out of 5 clouds. This product or book may have been distributed for review; this in no way affects my opinions or reviews.

In these hard economic times, it's hard sometimes to stay on the straight and narrow, especially when people are out to get you and get ahead, no matter what it takes. Take Shari Barnes, your average hard working waitress who is barely making enough to make ends meet, not to mention trying to get to work on time at a diner named Milts in downtown Los Angeles. No matter how many times she attempts to use the excuse of traffic, she is perpetually late. Now she learns that her former boss, Milt has sold his business to a new owner that is willing to keep her on board while learning the ropes, but Milt is retiring. Thankfully she returns home to find her boyfriend Nathan Townsend's planned a wonderful dinner surprise. He finally feels the big promotion he has waited for his entire life as Vice President for his firm is just hours away from becoming a reality and he proposes to Shari, promising her a life of nothing but desserts from now on. Only this is when life is about to be turned upside down for the both of them. One by one, the brass ring slips further out of their hands, first Nathan losing his job, then Shari and finally Shari gets into a car accident on the way home which is her fault. But life is about to through them a curve ball when it turns out the accident has been staged and the players except for Shari are all involved in insurance fraud. Shari and Nathan realize that revenge for what has happened to them is best served cold and in the form of paybacks. But will they make enough money or will life suddenly take a complete turn for the worse? In the novel Crashers by Lindy S. Hudis we are taken inside the illegal operations of insurance fraud and how people and their driving habits in Los Angeles are just the ticket to make fast money for all the players involved. Knowing how much drivers are stressed out, in a hurry and often take out their rage on the road, just makes the gamble for an accident that much more likely to happen. In this suspense thriller, the author shows the reader what can happen when greed becomes the only motivator for a get-rich-quick scheme and the results are more than you ever bargained for. I received this novel compliments of Pump Up Your Book Tours and Bettie Youngs Books for my honest review and have to say it was a thrill ride. I could see how easily Shari and Nathan could be enticed into this world of easy money especially when the bills are mounting up and everyone else around you is moving ahead that don't deserve it. This book does have a considerable amount of profanity in it that some readers may find offensive but over all the author does the story line justice and keeps it moving all the way to the end. This does give the reader an inside look at what scams some people actually run, both on the insurance side, the legal attorneys as well as the medical doctors all being involved. For that reason, I rate this one a 4 out of 5 stars.
