This is a great teen novel. It is easy to read and follow along with the characters. I fell immediately in love with Carla, the main character. The loss of her family was described in such detail that I really felt for her character. In fact, I even had dreams that I knew the character - that is how engrossed I was in the book. The book immediately jumps into the story where Carla meets her gnome companions in a snow globe. The book is full of twists and turns, and the relationship that Carla and her companions have is truly harrowing. Carla eventually discovers her purpose in life after her tragedy, and finds strength in her companions and herself working through the adventure one task at a time. I really enjoyed reading this book, it was really hard to put down, and I can't wait for the sequel.
