Donna Carroll is an ex-socialite who is trying to escape the limelight after a nasty, public divorce. Heading home to Mount Ares, North Carolina, she stays hidden away while her ego and pride recover. On her first public outing, she witnesses a strange attack on a waitress. The violence shakes Donna, but it's the arrival of Sheriff Bud Blackheart, her high school sweetheart, that convinces Donna to stop being a hermit. As she and Bud renew their relationship, Donna learns that Mount Ares has become overrun with strange violence and death.

Can Donna figure out the cause of the madness? Or will she become another casuality?

About the Author

Kathryn A. Patterson lives in a crooked house, on a crooked road. Alas, she is allergic to cats (and dogs) so she owns no crooked cat. Ms. Patterson lives in a marvelous world, filled with vampires, werewolves, and magic - oh, my! But she pretends to live in a dull, boring world filled with post offices, taxes, and calculators. It makes her family happier when she pretends.

When Ms. Patterson isn't attempting to cook some new, exciting, and hopefully unburnt dish, she writes stories about the end of the world, vampires, death, and dragons. She does make wonderful cookies, and will exchange said cookies for dusting, as she is also allergic to dust.
