Being partly responsible for training new recruits to law enforcement jobs, I am always looking for good resources. I got an early copy of this, and it is the best intro I've seen to the wide world of crime. Everything from understanding crime stats, forensics, types of crime, and what cops, lawyers, prob. officers, corrections folks and judges do. There's a lot of good anecdotes and stories to explain the concepts. While there are a couple of chapters on criminology that try to explain why perps engage in crime, this is really a criminal justice book. The criminology chapters do a good job trying to briefly summarize the bigger criminological theories. If you want an indepth criminological treatise, look elsewhere. But, if you want just one book for an accurate overview of the world of crime - get this.
