Anne Murray is the last of the great Alto's. She has that special and undefinable vocal presense, so unique it has a mysterious way of entering your heart and soul. Besides Ms. Streisand, and Mr. Mathis, there are very few remaining vocal greats. Anne, Barbra and Johnny are the last from this ''classic 60's and 70's golden recording era''. (Hey, they should even consider recording a trio, Mmmmm..) I think the others were Nat King Cole, Karen Carpenter, Cass Elliot, and Frank Sinatra. Anne's Croonin'collection is a joy to rotate in my CD player. Listening to her haunting vocal rendition to ''Hey There'' reminds all of us that love's not just a one way street. There are only a handful of contemporary vocalist who can control and utilize their voice effectively, people like Linda Eder, Harry Connick, Jr., Karen Mason, Michael Poss, and Sarah Mc Lachlan, just to name a few. I wonder if some of our young vocalist of today will ever refuse to imitate the excessive and quite popluar vocal scatting from all of the over-played radio Diva's? Will the young ''bubble gum'' Diva generation ever decide to simply sing their own way, and allow their vocal resonance achieve the effect. Our new generation of singers, could take a of couple vocal lessons from such greats as Anne Murray and 'Bab's'. Anne's phrasing on the ''Croonin''' CD is a real a treat.
