This book is about a very small, yet important, slice of my life: June 1939 to December 1944. Logically, I should have written it before I wrote Fifteen He Was as he went to war. I didn't for a very important reason; I wanted to be as frank and accurate as my memory would permit. I have said things about some people that are not very complimentary. Most of those people have passed away. I have met with some of the others and they understand, and appreciate, my feelings. In many cases, the acts that I viewed so negatively at the time were justifiable due to conditions of which I had no knowledge - then. These are explained in the EPILOG. But, please, read the book first before reading the EPILOG.
I was conceived in the Ukraine, born in Serbia, raised until the age of 10 in Kunming, China and brought to the United States by an American couple in 1939. For the next chapter of my life you'll have to read my book.
