Overview

Cry by Pamela King Cable

Cry is a contrast in extremes. A young girl, living just above the poverty line, struggles with unanswered questions about her past. Running parallel to her story is the opulent and abundant life of a televangelist, who is not only well-known, she’s a woman, “God’s anointed daughter.”
Two different stories — two opposite women — merging in the most unexpected place.
The inspiration for this tale of Southern women came from the first line. I had written it weeks before all the characters revealed themselves. But also, with church being paramount in my life growing up (my religious roots go way deep), I wanted to explore what it would be like for a young girl who was not raised in church.
The characters appeared at the oddest times, visiting my mind regularly to check on my progress. Many nights they got me out of bed to finish a scene or change their dialogue. I originally intended Janey Gay to be my protagonist . . . but in the end, Essie and Loretta convinced me that they had the most important story to tell.

This little gem is a heartbreakingly beautiful story of the harsh reality that was immigration. The emotion is raw, exhausting and unrelenting - much like it must have been at the time. Very well written!

Violetkit could hardly wait to be an apprentice. After the battle she had a sudden desire to be an expert warrior and her eyes opened to ber future. Things rubbed along with sparkledust who refused them milk and care . "Sparkledust should practice being nice to kits if she truly is going to have some" whispered Hazellkit making violetkit snicker. Suddenly they heard a familiar whine from the clearing" But i wanna come. Pleeeaaasssse take meee. " "Harvestkit! " moaned violetkit. "I told him to stay in the nursury! He never listens!" She ran out just as blackenedclaw approached. " whats going on?" " Well harvestkit would like to come hunt " said sparkledust flatly." Well then let him! Hes my strong son!"boomed blackenedclaw. " i dont know " said Cedarstar warily as sparkledust and violetkit nodded." Aw cmon " said blackenedclaw. " Cedatstar sighed " Well as long as you unerstand the risk and the consequences" Blackendclaw nodded and violetkit felt her heart drop to her paws. "I hvae to follow along sneakily.
