Crystal Boys vividly describes the lives' of the 'Crystal Boys' of Taiwan. The book clearly shows the conflicts of each character. I feel it is a rare find being a great book among a tiny genre that doesn't have a lot of writers. I found it clearly captured the use of speech and the secretive nature of asian people. It was very emotional and sad but I found it was not as tragic as I expected. The translation was excellent and captivated the true intentions without dulling or sanitzing the story. I found it a worthwhile book and recomend it to anyone interested.

This book tells the tale of gay life in Taipei, Taiwan. The book is set in the late 70's or the early 80's. It is quite sad looking at the lives of these young men, but there is nothing unrealistic about it. I'm sure the book loses something in the translation as it is not an easy read, but despite the non-flowing writing, it's well worth the time to read.
